BMW 520d SE F10, formerly c220cdi estate (for 12.5 years and 345k miles), before that w124 and w210
Hi,

I have been an avid reader of these forums for about a year, but never needed to post till now. I would like to thank you all for the help that I have gotten fro the forum in this time.

I have a W203 c220cdi estate, 2002, 90K miles.

Over the last week or so it has started to feel a bit sluggish. It seems to accelerate as normal from above 2500rpm, but below this it is very slow to pick up. I need to drop a gear or two and get the revs up.

It is behaving like a petrol engined car, not a high torque diesel. Driving briskly with the revs up it is fine. Driving slowly around the country lanes it is also fine. Proper acceleration only seems to occur when the revs get up.

I don't know if there is any connection, but it seems worse in the evening. I do a 65 mile commute each day. The morning run is in temperatures at least 10degC less than when I return in the evening.

Does this look like the dreaded MAF/MAS problem?

Any advice gratefully received.

Thanks

Yes, or blocked Cat but probably MAF.
