So, AMG owners, how’s your Fuel Consumption?

Just spent the weekend in Anglesey, so a chunk of 70-ish and a fair bit of 50. Not quite as smooth a journey as just long distance on a proper motorway, but had an indicated 36 mpg on the trip and calculated 33 mpg tank-to-tank.

My F-type is in Anglesey he also runs some holiday cottages there ,I got 1 thrown in with the deal but haven't gone yet 🙂

CLS55 here - MPG is actually nowhere near as poor as I expected - I can get 24mpg on a run. Rareley see less than 18mpg unless it's a short journey. Unless you're doing significant mileage per year it's of course less of a factor.

Never understood the point of this thread. Do AMG owners,
(especially V8 owners) really bother about fuel consumption?
If so, why get one. :dk:🤔

When I had my V8 I always checked my mpg
Just to see how low I could get it , to satisfy myself I was really making use of all 8 of
the cylinders 😁

I think its quite a good idea to watch the mpg no matter what the car....sometimes its the first sign that things are not 100% if it suddenly starts falling for what seems like no reason. It was the first sign that I had a tiny hole in one of my intercooler pipes.

Personally I marvel at the efficiency of these engines - my CLA45S is simultaneously the most powerful and most fuel efficient car I have ever owned.

As per the other post in here about the E400 mpg problem, something is not right and could be the precursor to an even bigger problem

I did manage 8 mpg back through some back roads of the New Forest yesterday for a short blast after a night away, but reset on the on ramp for the modest drive home with cylinder shut down active on the M27 at 70-ish and it was between 35 and 40 mpg indicated over 10 miles or so to the exit ramp.

99 RON fuel, roof up (twas raining) SLK55

When I had my C43s and my S211 E500 I never bothered looking at mpg as I had a company fuel car. With my employer at the time I also had free parking at the office in central London and they paid my congestion charge. Really handy in the summer when the tube was a billion degrees.

When I changed jobs, I lost those perks and promised my wife that I'd get something more sensible next like a 350CDI. Then ULEZ was announced and that gave me the cast iron excuse to buy my current S212 E500.

I do sometime look at the average consumption on long drives. Using lots of Distronic I can get it to nudge over 30mpg door to door on long drives (London to Leeds/Wales/Scotland). More to the point, it's a very smooth zen-like way to make progress and I lose my camera anxiety. I f888ing hate cameras as I grew up in a time when you could absolutely smash it up the M1, M6, M40 etc; these days licence-losing speed are just a twitch of my right foot away......

The other thing the mpg readout reminds me to use it less in town and get into my wife's Fiat 500 instead. The 212 is a fantastic place to sit in London traffic but the Fiat makes more sense. Plus I don't care so much about the drop links and ball joints on it

My 2018 AMG GTS averaged 30mpg on the nose cruising from Tarbes in southern France back to Surrey (best part of 800 miles) at between 70 and 80 on the autoroutes. Mightily impressed with that. On the roads across and around the Pyrennes however it was a different story ;)

I marvel at the fact my 8 cylinder C class is only marginally less efficient than my M135i (2.0 4 cylinder) was!

Perfect balance of V8 grunt and sensible commuting economy.

You can have both and the efficiency of these modern engines should be celebrated, not just their naughty growly side IMHO.

Absolutely adore this car.

Just can't drive it right now 😕 (leg and back pain)

2 hours on A roads and M5/M4 and I managed to get the trip to tick over to 30mpg. What that means is that any 4x4 I need will have to be a cooking 3l diesel as anything larger won't really do better figures than the cls. Not sure if that makes me please or not!

Trip up Goodwood on Friday morning and a long weekend in Hampshire, mostly M1/M25/M40 and my E63S peaked at 30.7mpg and averaged 27.9mpg.

This car never ceases to impress me!

Not trying hard enough, anything not in the teens = Zzzzzzzzzzz driving

It's made to be enjoyed ......

Yesterday I did a 400 mile round trip in an SLK 55 AMG which has been more than a bit modified with a great big supercharger. In the outbound leg I managed 37.4 MPG at an average of 57 MPH and then 34.8 MPG at 48 MPH on the return leg.

Had it not been for the huge queues arriving and departing the destination (Goodwood Festival of Speed) then I am fairly confident that it would have achieved very close to MPG on the way down as that’s what the trip said prior to queuing.

As it’s been remapped it’s difficult to know how accurate the trip meter is, but anything in the mid-to-high 30s has got to be good. Those figures were achieved whilst keeping up with the ebb & flow of traffic and making progress when safer

I brimmed it as a I set off and brimmed it as I arrived back but didin’t calculation consumption. I did put a couple of gallons in at the motorway services though as it was looking like I might might not quite have enough fuel remaining.

BP Ultimate 97 RON (motorway) 190.9p
Shell VPower 99 RON (town) 157.9p

Averaging 25mpg in normal mixed driving, had 32mpg on a long motorway run (sitting between 70mph and 80mph).
Let's face it, it's not just the m1 is it?

You love driving like a oap in ya amg!

Today I had an opportunity to drive a W166 ML 63 AMG with the M157 5.5 biturbo engine, with four adults, a dog and filled with a ridiculous amount of luggage. IMHO it was just about the perfect tool for the job.

It managed a respectable 23.3 MPG over 226 miles in 4h 52m at an average speed of 46 MPH, keeping up with the exodus of black SUVs and VW campers heading North and East from Devon and Cornwall.

The trip computer revealed that the same car had achieved 17.4 MPG over 66,054 miles 2497 hours at an average speed of 26 MPH. That’s a fairly good indication of what fuel consumption to expect!
