Interesting bit of research. Two MB group cars jump out.

Smart Fortwo and Bugatti Veyron head up list of top loss-making cars | Autocar

£3762 per unit loss on every first generation Smart For Two is a big loss given how much that it of the total purchase price. The original A class isn't much better.

The Bugatti figure is of course insane - as almost every other fact about them.

Of course it not an overall loss in the case of M-B & VW. Swings & roundabouts.

Mind,the Bugatti figure is off the wall but I'm sure the car generated some great publicity for the VW Group as well as beneficial R&D.

Anyway, when these screw up and make a loss making model ( a lot do it would seem) they indirectly charge their customers. Yep, swings & roundabouts.
