Sound of water in my E Class coupe

I doubt there's any electronics in the sills , but the water has to get there somehow .

Are your carpets wet ? There can be electronics in the foot wells and under the seats .

The water could very well be entering in one place , travelling past and soaking electronics , before ending up in the sills .

With it now properly broken down , you can ask Merc to recover it and resolve the issue before returning it ; I'd think you'd be due a decent courtesy car as it's likely to take them time to diagnose and fix the problem .

Once it's recovered by merc assist they will provide you with a hire car via europcar which mb uk state has to be a Mercedes at their cost.

Word of warning from past experiences, don't expect europcar to deliver your hire car the same day!

This car is still under warranty. How old is it ? What mileage is it showing ?

Water sloshing around in it and MB won't look at it for 3 weeks !!?

The mind boggles.

The carpets are as dry as a bone but at times their has been condensation on the rear window.

The car is a 61 plate with 72k miles on the clock and FMSH. In fairness to Mercedes, I explained that I needed a courtesy car but its still a long time to wait I agree.

The difficulty is, we are going down to Cornwall a week today for the family holiday. Obviously we were taking the E Class with us and im conscious of the tight timescale we have.

If the car isnt ready in time and we get a hire car, where would I stand in terms of keeping the hire car for the week we are away on holiday or would Mercedes state that the car may be ready during the time we are away and wouldnt allow this?

You're being very cool about this. If I had water sloshing about in my car, I'd have driven it to a dealer and said sort it out now!

Not in 3 weeks. Now.

2011, therefore, presumably, a used-car warranty as outside the original warranty.

There are a number of reasons why the car could be leaking, some might be covered by the warranty, some not. Hire car issues, if applicable, will be covered in the warranty or might be a dealer goodwill gesture. If, for example, drains are blocked by leaves, that is unlikely to be covered by the warranty.

Blocked sunroof drains can cause water to collect and move around under braking or acceleration. As others have mentioned, see if a passenger can locate the general area of the sound.

What a pain! If it's a Tier 1 warranty you have it does not cover any seals for the doors, sunroof or windows.

I wouldn't drive it anywhere. I would remove as many rubber bungs/plugs as I could find ,wire into every drain hole in every door and hope to see a flood of water.

Incidentally I had to jack up one corner (front) on the wife's ageing Zafira yesterday and water pi**ed out of the underside somewhere.

I just finished what I was doing and quietly put it back on the ground...it is just a Vauxhaull after all

I'm just waiting for Mercedes assist to turn up now so I'll post an update later on..

I can't help think water has some how hot to the electrics somewhere..

It's the electronic ignition lock that is at fault. So awaiting a recovery truck to collect it to take it the main dealers, just hoping the warranty will cover it.

The car has been put on the back of the lorry and has gone to Mercedes in Warrington. Soda law the car started first time when the recovery arrived. However, their is obviously a fault even if it's intermittent so it's still gone the dealership.

We are going away to Cornwall next weekend so I don't want to be in the position again we're the car won't start. Will Mercedes still fix it if all seems fine now?

Once they plug it in a run a diagnostic they should know the reason why it didn't start.

2011 E220 coupe with sloshing water under slow speed braking. I checked the doors and no water. I got the car over a pit and found 2 rubber triangular shaped bungs/drains that had become blocked. These are located at the rear of the car forward of the rear wheels. I also had to take down the covers underneath the car and the plastic sill covers too. Once I took them out, I got about 1.5litres out of both sills. I cleaned both bungs and removed silt with an air blower and all is good again. Hope this helps.

I had this on my E class Cab, i jacked it up on one corner and the slight flex allowed the water to drain out

Likewise, had it on mine this year. Seems to be a bit of a design flaw.

Fantastic for a Merc.. my opinion is they don't build them like they used too.. probably better off with a Ford- I guess for the mainstream PCP brigades it's a badge thing.

Had exactly the same with my wife's 7 year old Astra coupe last week.
Parked on a slope, removed the back sill plugs and watched about 2 litres of milky water pour out of the off side.
Very satisfying and problem solved for now!
No idea how water got in there in the first place, but need to check the sills a bit more often in the future

Hello RSTurbo50 /All, I have a 2014 E class convertible which has this very same issue of water swooshing around when I accelerate or decelerate. I have checked boot and areas I can see which is limited and no sign or smell of water. Sounds like it’s trapped in the rear wings somewhere.
Did anyone get the bottom of the issue? Thaka

It's in the Sill, jack it up at the rear corner and it'll come out, i never got to the bottom of it before i sold mine
