Hi all,

I know stone chips are the bane of our lives & my car is mint apart from the dreaded peril of a smattering of chips along the front, and an gritty impression left by a concrete post to the rear bumper (previous owner, don't ask!)

I don't want to wreck my pride & joy, so wondering if anyone knows of a good repairer in South Wales? Or do I trust a local Chips Away franchise???

Any help appreciated, I don't wanna hand my baby over to a cowboy!

Thanks,

David

Hi not long had my chips done, im from south wales also.
1st off i get a company like chips away to do the job.....£150 later and 2 visits the job was awful! the chips would have been welcome to stay.

Ended up having to get the full bonnet and the tops of the wings done, i took it to nationwide sprayers ( i think they do a lot of insurance repairs) ohh and they did it in 1 day!

Very pleased with the result, i would recomend them to anyone!

steer clear of the mobile ones!

Forget paying someone to do it - it isn't difficult ! http://www.detailingworld.co.uk/forum/showthread.php?t=20127 Get a touch up kit, do the fill ins yourself having cleaned the holes and then flat off with 2000 grit, followed by 300 grit wet & dry (well lubed with fairy liquid & water). This will leave a flatted off finish, which you take to any bodyshop and get them to polish the whole bonnet. Shouldn't cost more than £50 for a couple of hours polishing.

Okay, thanks both of you! I will fill it myself, get a kit & then let a bodyshop do the final blend/polish.

Perhaps the mobile guys should change their name to "Stay Away"? Phew, I had heard mixed messages about them, especially with silver cars which are harder to do!? Thanks for saving me heartache & cash!

Much appreciated - I would have blindly gone & booked them, and had to invest in valium :wallbash:!

Cheers again for the good advice :)

David
