Hi

Someone that I know has been caught speeding at 75 in a 40 on a 3 lane stretch of the A12 in London.

They have been given 6 points, is it possible to ask for the speed awareness course in a hope to reduce the 6 points to may be 3 points?

Regards

Tan

At 35 over the speed limit? Unfortunately not.

I think your friend is quite lucky there. A Neighbour was banned for doing 15 over the limit on a stretch of the A3 on his way to Portsmouth. then again my neighbour is pretty stupid and an complete (sounds like) aerosol.

I think that the max is 10mph over the limit.

At 75 in a 40 I think that he's very lucky to only get 6 points, another 5mph and he'd have been banned.

ROFLMAO.......I think he was pretty aware of his speed...:wallbash:

Banning is applied at 30 over the limit. ie 100+ in a 70 limit.;)

So he is very lucky he was not banned.:ban:

Defo not - your mate should have been banned.

Agreed,

I was referring to the ban for double the speed limit, i.e. 80 in a 40.

I wonder, are these actual rules or urban myth?

I'm fairly sure above 95 on the motorway you're heading for court, depending on how much of a tosser the PC thinks you are.

"Defo not": Thank you for answering the question.

"your mate should have been banned": I did not ask for your opinion on what should have happened, thus would appreciate it if you would keep these unnecessary comments to yourself.

I think you're taking things too personally. You asked could "he" apply for a speed awareness course. I think comments like "he" is lucky not to be banned are reinforcing "he" is lucky to just get 6 pts.

Most threads go off on tangients or is that tangents. iPod doesn't have a spellchecker. :)

May be I am, I have no issue with comments like "he" is lucky not to be banned, as I appreciate this is the case.

A few mph over the limit can usually be put down to inattentiveness, a potentially dangerous failing hence the awareness course.

Almost double the limit is sticking two fingers up at the law and every other road user and deserves everything thrown at it.

Nope, done at 96 and FPN. She did say she could issue a court summons but as it was quiet, clear and good conditions a FPN was more suitable.

What it really was is that she liked my patter :D:D;);):cool:

.

Cannot be, as I was caught 11mph over the limit and was offered the course, which I am taking up.:thumb:

I've a feeling that it changes dependant on the police force.

I did the course this month, not to bad. I was useless at guessing the speed limit, though they were all about 60mph.

Best bit was the old grunters who insisted on moaning about the cameras and sulked for 3 hours when the trainer had to have a word in the first break.

Try not to ge straight from work in a suit, I had a lot of attention from the trainer as the only suit-wearer.

According to the ACPO guidelines, over 65 in a 40 limit would get you a court summons (not a fixed penalty).

The criteria for apeed awareness courses may vary a bit from area to area but in the Thames Valley you will be offered one as an alternative to a fixed penalty if caught at the following speeds:

30 limit: from 35 to 39 mph
40 limit: from 46 to 50 mph
50 limit: from 57 to 61 mph
60 limit: from 68 to 72 mph
70 limit: from 79 to 83 mph

The 'from' speeds are as per the ACPO guidelines ... below those no action would normally be taken.

That's correct, at 26 over the speed limit you would normally be invited to attend at the Magistrates Court, the Magistrates then having the option to ban you.

na, it depends on how you "play ball" at court.
If your cocky they will ban.
However I had a good defence with work ect.. so I got 6 points and £100 fine.
The judge took into count my car I was driving and understood I wasnt racing it.

oh by the way, if your court on a mobile camera such as van its not as bad as a fixed camera.
Your looked upon better.

I got two tickets for over 100 a few years back, both were in the small hours with nothing else on the road (Unmarked car and mobile radar). 3 Points each.
