I have been caught speeding many times, and been convicted only twice -- fingers crossed. These days, I am more mature :D :D

The worst was 110mph on the M25 in my Golf GTi   and 68mph in a 30mph zone in central London (4 am in the morning during the Xmas/New Year break) in my sadly departed CLK320 Convertible   But no conviction

On each occassion I have been let off, I have been contrite, apologetic, humble, and almost patheticly sorry. In addition, I have 'sucked up' to the officer by treating him as a 'God' (with the power to put points on my licence!) while at the same time chatting him up as a 'friend'. By trying to connect with them on a personal level rather than being on an 'official' level, they are more likely to show mercy. :) :)

Thank you to everyone that voted.

What information can we gather from the results?

For a start we can say that at least half of the people on the forum have been convicted for speeding at some point in their driving career. Of those people 46% already own devices, 17% are thinking about it and 37% aren't going to buy a device at all.

The remaining people have never been convicted for speeding. 26% of those people own devices, 39% are thinking about it and 35% aren't going to buy one.

In conclusion then, people are more likely to own a speed trap detection device right now if they have been previously convicted of speeding, this does not come as a surprise. The advertising campaigns make out that it is cheaper to own a device than it is to be fined for speeding. 36% of people don't seem to agree with this and over half of those people have been previously convicted. If all the people that intend to own devices make good on their intentions then 64% of people will own a device, this would make it an even split between those with convictions and those without because right now approximatly the same split of people never intend to own one. 28% of people are thinking about buying one, so the manufacturers need to get some work done! :)
