Picked this off the interweb - what do you all think????

"In case you know anyone who is ever caught for speeding:
Just thought I would share this with you. As you know I work in the speeding fine department in Swindon's Magistrate Court and in the course of my investigation into "fines, their payment methods, and how points are automatically added against drivers licences" I discovered something very interesting.
This has been tried and it works.
I tried to send this to everyone I know. I know that for a fact it works so if you ever get in this situation, you have an out. We discovered that this procedure works nationwide. Read it and try it. You have nothing to lose but the points on your licence.
This is how it works:
If you get a speeding ticket or went through a red light or whatever the case may be, and you are going to get points on your licence, then there is a method to ensure that you DO NOT get any points. When you get your fine, send in the cheque to pay for it and if the fine is, for example £30. Then make the cheque out for £31 or some small amount over the fine. The system will then have to send you back a cheque for the difference. But here is the trick; **DO NOT CASH THE REFUND CHEQUE!!!** Throw it away!!
Points are not assessed to your licence until all financial transactions are complete. If you do not cash the cheque, then the transactions are NOT complete. However, the system has got its money and is happy and will not bother you any more. This information came to our attention from a very reliable computer company that sets up the standard database used by each county's computing system."

Ive heard about over paying of a fine, but belive its another Urban Myth.

Sounds like nonsense ...

Has anyone that anyone on here knows ever done it ?

I don't trust that idea, that's why I drive around with my front number plate inside the car*. I'd rather risk a £30 fine than a speeding fine and points. ;)

* - I'm kidding about the number plate.

I just use plates with JBG 111 on them. Never had a ticket yet.

It was at one time true that in Australia if you underpaid/overpaid the fine by a few cents they could not close the transaction and they could not send it for debt collection. But since then the law has changed.

Back in 1988 i operated my credit card in surplus balance and it drove my bank manager crazy. Similarly overpayment of utility bills by a few cents would cause endless amounts of double checking to find out where the extra cents would come from. Back then people would not overpay and the systems were very basic. So the extra cents would cause numerous checks to be made to determine the cause of the difference.

I'd be very surprised if it's true but whatever happened to honesty in this world.
Why do so many people try to dodge 3 points and £60 rather than own up and pay up for something they actually did.

It's only last month or so we were discussing a thread where a father and son both went to jail for lying about a speeding ticket yet people are still looking for a get out of clause.

There is only one sure fire way of not having to ever pay a speeding ticket.

I like Janner's idea though, maybe I'll give it a try.. :D

If anybody wants to give this idea a try help yourselves!

But dont blame me when you get a bigger fine and various other convictions.

It possibly was true years ago, but you, and for the sake of impression to driver it home, will get done worse if you try this

But dont argue with me saying I dont know! Go and give it a go and come back. I will be happy to have your explaination as to how worse your fine got as a result of trying this idiotic suggestion and will consider it part of an appology.
I can't even be bothered to go and look for all the reasons this will not work.

just google it and see what happens.

It does not work, a mate of mine tried it and they revoked his licence until it was sorted.
The only chance used to be a pace statement but a recent european court ruling has changed this.
