I managed to get a great deal on a sprintbooster for my C270 CDI, normal price £180 got it for £120 on ebay - Brand new....

It took me 20 minutes (albeit in the dark without the right tools) to fit it...

WOW instant improvement - NO lag from the engine/gearbox, just tap the accelerator and your OFF!!

This is how my car should always have been, why dont Merc fit these as standard for the sake of £200!

ot sure how long my rear tyres will last however and the traction control light has been going mental trying to keep the grip.. but it is damp out there!

If anyone is thinking about it... DO IT.. its the best quick mod that will make you smile!!

... no i dont work for sprintbooster or have anything to do with them!

am i right in thinking that all these things do is give you full throttle earlier, ie less peddal travel?

No, usually the cheap units on ebay just flood more fuel through and trick the ecu into thinking it is sucking more air in so it goes quicker but its not the best way to do it.....A proper remap is the way to do it as they adjust everything from air and fuel to boost pressure etc

I've seen comments about delay in pick-up etc but I honestly don't have any issues with my car - and I've driven other diesel autos with horrendous lag, so I have experienced it.

It removes the Throttle response delay for Electronic throttles, what you have to remember is that the delay was put in there for a reason, so unless you are a very skilled racing driver there is now a greater chance of coming to grief if you remove the delay.

Insurance companies are now taking this very seriously and we have been asked by various ones to check cars we have had in for accident repair for performance upgrades and they all have mentioned specifically sprintbooster and remaps. So if you have one declare it as you would any performance mod.

There is also an argument they actually make your car slower, we tested a BMW 530 M Sport with and without a sprintbooster around the Nurburgring, the car had quicker lap times without it this was due to the fact you could not feed the power in gently when the sprintbooster was fitted the same was also true on an Audi S4.

It s a good ego boost but as a performance mod a non runner IMHO

As i thought, it does not actually make the car any faster or increase power in anyway. You can just use your right foot properly to get the same response - ie move your foot more! it is a lot cheaper than £200.

Like a lot of car 'gadgets' out there -it doesnt really do much you cant do yourself.

A good remap does make it faster though, and cant be found by diagnostics either....Check the stats of this remapped 535d done by DMS, its proper fast http://www.evo.co.uk/carreviews/evocarreviews/56346/bmw_5series.html

have to agree with the above - my old Audi S4 had a custom remap written for it that took it from 265 to 325bhp and a shed load of torque! And no -you could not tell it had been remapped unless you knew how to actually read the maps themselves.

Yep no problem with remaps thats what they are designed to do increase performance but EVERY re map is detectable don't believe what the tuners tell you. There is some pretty sophisticated software that will Interogate the ECU to find out what changes have been made and when. The moral is if you do performance upgrades declare them as if it comes to a claim and you haven't then you are stuffed.

I dont even think my insurance went up at all on my Audi when it was remapped....Going to do my C270 soon but will tell them anyway as i am with specialist and they dont seem to charge much if anything for it.....I suspect people like Aviva and Admiral etc would charge a bomb....

No mine didn't either when I had the Subaru which had a TSL remap, sports cat and exhaust and was running over 300 BHP. I think you are right though mainstream companies charge a fortune, specialist companies take driver history and training into account when calculating premiums or add on's

Broker every time for modified cars.

A remap changes the values of data on your ECU's memory - it's trivial to detect. Difficult to understand, yes, but easy to spot that it's happened.

"Stealth" chips that use volatile memory space exist but only in F1 :D

LOL

You can turn it off, can't you?

When I had my E55 fitted with the sprintbooster, I told the insurance company I had fitted it.
They were not interested in it, as it does not alter the perfomance output of the car. A lot of other members found the same too.
I expect that the people that post a negative comment about sprintbooster, have never actually had first hand experience of the.
Do a search on the forums for sprintbooster and you will find many happy customers.
