steamed up windscreen W202 c280

is there one at the rear?

i get a similar problem but only with the rear window

cheers

^ That's because the damp air travels from the front of the car to the rear, where it condenses on the rear window, alternatively water is entering the back of the car, possibly the boot.

Well i thought the problem was solved but last nite i went to get into my car and its soaking as usual. Grrrrrrrrrrrr!!!!

Often the cause is that the heater is set to heat the air in the car --I think called recirculating-- instead of heating fresh air from outside of the car.
This certainly is the case in older ,,simpler heaters where you have that choice ie,, heat the air thats in the car or heat fresh air from outside

The switch is never on recirculate so this not the problem. I have a car full next week and bet the misting is going to be really bad even with air con on ???

Shouldn't be. But what you may notice is misting building up rapidly when you switch the a/con off. I actually tend to use the A/c more in winter than 'summer'.

If the intake has been taking in water, the cabin filter will be soaked.

Thanks Dieselman but i took filter out and dried it on top of my boiler. Cheers, T.

Hi Tony,it's probably holding water in the drain trough in front of the screen.Remove the plastic shields in front of the windscreen;2x plastic nuts 10mm either side 8x philips screws on the face 2x screws either side of wiper mech, unclip covers with a flat driver.
On the passenger side under the fan aperture is the drain, unblock at the bottom, also under the wiper mech there is another drain this blocks as well, use a coat hanger wire to unblock, just done this on mine for same reason as you a couple of days ago

Hi Mate and thanks. I followed what you said and the wells were full. unblocked now. Thanks. Cheers, T.

Well i've given up with the misting of my windows. Despite the car being completely dry inside and no water in the drain wells under the scuttle panel etc etc she is still misting up completely after half an hour after turning engine off. cheers T.

if the drain wells were full of leaves etc, then water might have got into the pipework, and be resting in little puddles? try blowing at full whack at full heat for as long as you can bear it! maybe just doing one vent at a time (ie do windscreen only, do front left only etc)?

The drain wells are free of dirt and leaves and i've ran a hosepipe through the holes so i know their clear. T.

Well ive found out the problem. The drain holes under the scuttle panel were completely blocked and water literally being sucked into the ventilation system. i unblocked the holes with a wire coat hanger and all the water literally gushed out. there must have been a couple of liters. Thanks peeps for all your suggestions. i was not listening to you properly and at the moment lack confidence doing anything on my car where as before i would tackle anything. Think its an age thing. Cheers all, Tony.

I said were not 'are'....

I had a Peugeot Boxer, it used to FREEZE inside the windscreen. After a bit the heater matrix failed and poured water all inside. super cold winter drive from NI back to kildare in the winter. Anyway a bottle of Novastop for about €16 will fix leaks, obvious or not. the floor in the van was not wet at all. worth a shot at the price
