*****Stolen SLK32AMG*****

Wow how lucky were you
confused.gif
Did they rebuild it??
All totally as new now , SG Bodyshop in Swansea did a great job, it needed a new bumper and bootlid and the rear crash crossmember replaced, oddly none of the light clusters were damaged. The neckpro headrests in the C207 do "what it says on the tin", no whiplash.

Then again , yours was demonstrably a cherished and well cared for car - I am reminded of Del320's long running thread after the bin lorry ran into his W124 320CE .

http://www.mbclub.co.uk/forums/driving-incidents-roadrage/175958-not-good-day.html

His car was also a cherished and well above average condition example , there was much debate over the outcome of the insurance claim , but in the end the car was repaired and lives on :thumb:

I think Derek had similar misgivings regarding how he would feel about the car after such a shunt , but I understand he still owns and enjoys it .

With any luck , he'll be along as a kindred spirit who can offer some words of comfort for you .

I certainly had misgivings about how I'd feel about a damaged and repaired car, but I'm afraid I'd draw the line about continuing with a car vandalised and abused by lowlife scum. Just knocks the stuffing out of the pleasure of ownership.
Get rid...

:mad: Insurance Company have written he car off as being uneconomical to repair. So far its going to cost £12000 +vat and they haven't had the engineers report yet.

Totally gutted. Why bother Insuring these cars? All seems totally pointless:mad::mad: Best I can hope for is replace like for like...Good luck!!! Guaranteed to :fail Now what??? Only seen two possible candidates and both are the High end Teens or £20K +

Good luck with your search.

As for having insurance, yes it does not fully cover you as it should but... it's still better than not having it at all....

I did ask my insurer why they insist on you stating a "valuation" for your car when you insure it, if? they then just use Glass's to pay you out when its written off.

There was no really clear answer.

My learning from this and my own recent experience:

Insure it on an "agreed value" policy if you are concerned about the difference in your valuation and Glass's.

Also note well please.

If it is an "at fault claim" the insurer will only offer up to 60% of the Glass's valuation for a "contract repair"

If it is a "non-fault claim" they will offer up to £1.00 less than the Glass's valuation for a contract repair.

When they are looking for quotations for work! If it goes to their recommended/approved repairer? The repairer will most likely quote to replace everything that is damaged with new OEM parts and a full re-spray and main dealer labour rates.

So on my W203 a headlight £350 + fitting £440 Then you have a new bumper & paint, WIng & paint, bonnet & paint, front strut & fitting, slam panel the list goes on. They wanted £400 just to jig the chassis "in case of any damage"

I see why they do it and understand it. You have been warned people. Get an agreed valuation or some kind of GAP policy.

I have also thought this too, although not too bothered with my old barge but if I had a more unique/cherished vehicle I would.

Some cars to consider, 3rd one down I think...
Mercedes SLK32 AMG for sale on Car and Classic UK

Such a shame to lose a good car. I'd definately want another if something happened to mine, but it's so hard to find a decent one.

Try giving these a call: Buy Used Cars Havant, Hampshire | Performance Car Company

It's where i got mine from and he said that he gets a few of them a year, though not showing any in stock at the moment.

PCS is only a few miles down the road too.

Problem there is such a limited number of 32's
Out there. Three lads have been arrested in connection with the robbery and abuse of the cars thus far...We think they were after RS60 Porsche to be honest...

Have you considered a R171 SLK55 as a possible replacement?

There is a nice low mileage one on Autotrader. It's a 2006 with 44k miles which is up for £15k

An R171 Maybe something to consider, or maybe the R172, which is the later day version (looks wise) of the original R170 concept... (little enhancements such as the side vents). :dk:

Reckon its time to wave my beloved 32 on its way ...
I'm Going to rescue my Brabus slit rim wheels and what's left of my Alpine system this week, and take the Insurance pay out. £13500.

Not nearly what its worth, to me that is, But I cant justify £12,500 +Vat to fix it, and it still needs starting, and checking or if I need new suspension parts and may new steering of some description.

The engine oil smells fine and not cooked, but don't know about transmission, whether its been over revved. All pricey things to sort if buggered.:fail

And finally the car has been abused, and no matter how good the paint job, I can't cope with the idea that three young little toe rags have driven and abused my pride and joy that I have lavished over these last 14 years.:(

All good things come to an end, but at least I owned it. ;)

Thanks for all the support during this period
Best regards
Matt

May be a DB9 next ;)

Do you have the option of taking the payout and taking the car back yourself? Maybe you could break it up for parts to recoup some of the costs.
