Some theving **** has taken 1 of my wheel bolts, no idea why luckily no damage.

I thought of
1) replace it and hope it doesn't happen again

2) fit nut covers over the bolts, but this may cause damage if they try to prise them off without the right tool.

3) fit 4 tuner bolts to each wheel, leaving locking bolt as it is, these come with a spline type tool to remove bolts. Would these fit?

My bolts are in really good nik, no rust which a lot of them have.

What would be the best option and how if people prevented this, yes they were on tight after painting the calipers

You seem certain that the bolt did not come loose and fell off.

If so, cances are someone was missing a bolt and could not be bothered to buy one... it is likely to be a one off and there is no reason to assume that the thief will come back for more.

Have you had tyres replaced recently? Or had the wheel off at any time?
Why would someone steal a single bolt?

Had all 4 wheels refurbished powder coated and fitted new tyres. all bolts were on and rechecked after a week. Then removed to paint calipers. Bolts rechecked after a wk. Few days after 1 bolt missing

Maybe someone was attempting to steal a wheel and was disturbed before they got very far.

Simple solution - get Kwak Fit to tighten the nuts with their air-gun - no more theft ;)
