Stolen

I feel where you are coming from same happened to my car last year, cost me out of pocket $635.00 to replace from a dismantler and repaint @ body shop...they told me before installing FYI...spoiler or anything mounted w/3m double sided tape is easy to remove w/100 lb test fishing line...just run it under the lip of spoiler in sawing motion from side to side...spoiler will pop of in aprox 15 to 20 secs...no alarm will protect your car... try going to a desmantler and see if you can locate a one to replace it....insurance will pay but then there's the paperwork and possible increase in premiums.....

I used wd40 and let the adhesive soak it all in and then used some rubbing compond to get the rest off. There is tonnes of scratches etc to the paintwork, bought a spoiler of eBay and will attempt to put one on myself, otherwise will go through insurance...

They told me who they suspected it was as their prints were found on the car, but because it was parked on the street it was unlikely that they could bring it to conviction as he could say he walked past and just touched it by accident even though there was a video of said person doing it. I am hoping I bump into him someday....

I was lucky that there is only a couple of scratches where they lifted off the spoiler which will be concealed by the new spoiler. Good luck fitting; I wouldn't trust myself to get it on perfectly so will leave it to the body shop to do.

Given the hassle its not even worth pursuing said person in a private prosecution to recoup the costs of the spoiler. Its probably even worse that the Police have a suspect but despite the evidence there is not a realistic chance of conviction. Although you'd expect the Police to at least arrest them so that they know better than to target your car again.

Thank god they didn't dent or scratch mine too much and at least they didn't want anything else (badges or the alloys!)

have decided to just go through the insurance route, get them to sort out the paint etc, its through business insurance so no worries about premium going up...

anyone interested in a carbon fibre spoiler? going cheap...

Buy it and see if you can get a picture of the seller.

Years ago a young work staffer had a car he had been restoring completely stripped. The police couldn't do anything so he put an advert in the paper for parts for a similar, but not the same model.

He was taken to three addresses where he found all his stuff (he had engraved the back of it).

He said he needed to get some money, but really got all his Mates. They liberated nearly all his parts.

Holy ****.....right, I'm going to check this out... Thanks lads...anyone up for some fun?

Is there anything on that spoiler to confirm it was yours?

Not sure, does anyone know if there are part numbers on them?
Might give mb a ring and find out but I doubt there would be anything.

There will be a part number, but what would that prove.

If you're lucky, there might be a manufacturing date code. Buy it, get the sellers prints...hopefully they match the other on file.

I would have thought there was some of the tape residue on both the spoiler and the boot.
If they match up - bingo!

I thought that but then I would have thought the tea leaf would have removed all that.

However, not every criminal is smart so you could be right...

Sticking it on eBay so soon after was not exactly wise - if indeed this is 'the' spoiler.

I have bought it, seeing him tomorrow to pick it up.

You are correct, mb said there is a generic part number, nothing specific to my vehicle.

You need the correct 3m tape and it should be pretty easy - just make sure you get it lined up perfectly so measure and mark up correctly beforehand.

i have the double sided 3M tape but do i add adhesive as well or will the tape suffice?

I assume i need to make sure the surface is clean so i will clean it but do i also need to prime the surface of the vehicle and spoiler with sandpaper or anything?

No, the 3M tape itself should be fine. I fitted the spoiler to our W203 myself just using the origianl tape on the spoiler and it's been absolutely fine.

Just take some time to measure / check the fitment as the tape is extremely strong!. I marked where the spoiler was going to go by using masking tape to ensure I could line it up properly.

I take it wasnt your one off your car then.

Best thing to do is get a second person to help as they can hold it while you guide it into position as said above once it sticks its a bugger to get off again
