Stop expanding the ULEZ to all the London boroughs in 2023

So if a plumber in St Albans has a non ULEZ van and gets a job in the West End, what does he have to pay? I’m confused.

He'll pay as of 29th Aug exactly as much as he would have paid prior to 29th Aug. In the particular example above, the recent ULEZ expansion (the topic of this thread) makes no difference to how much the plumber pays.

The point that I was making is that is a payment a tradesman must make on top of everything else.

I don't disagree, and I did say in my initial post "Just to clarify".

Tradesmen travelling into the Congestion Charge zone have been paying the Congestion Charge for 20 years now, and the ULEZ charge for the past 4 years. This means that the recent ULEZ expansion won't affect those tradesmen taking jobs inside the Congestion Charge zone, because they have already been paying the maximum possible long before the current expansion. My point was that those tradesmen would have already increased their prices 4 years ago to cover the extra cost. In other words, a tradesman is either not affected (because he's paying the maximum already), or he'll be affected by £12.50. Again, this was a clarification, not a counter-argument to your post.

I once walked 600 yards with a single divan bed complete with mattress on my head just so I didn't have to give Red Ken (as it was at that time) my money. It was a Council Job so I could have added the Congestion Charge on but on principle he wasn't getting any of my money whatsoever !!!!

Quality. 👍👍

I’ve done it with a roll of 150mm lead on my shoulder.

I saw a pikey tipper the other day by the Woolwich ferry (this is the border between the original ULEZ) The driver jumped out a slid a different number plate over his original plate, took 5 seconds and was on his way. Probably more for flytipping but just as effective for ULEZ.

BTW my sister rented a VW Tiguan Diesel in Italy, got stuck after less than an hour with a message 'Add AdBlue'. Waited 2 hours in the scorching sun for roadside assistance chap, who took her to a local petrol station where she was forced to pay 40 Euro for a can of AdBlue, then drove her back to the stranded rental car and poured it in for her. No idea is she managed to recoup the cost from the rental company. I am also in Italy driving a rented Jeep Compass Diesel, no idea if it has AdBlue, and with a bit of luck I won't find out either.....

When I last went to Spain (in 2016) I booked a “prestige petrol car” from Avis at the airport. When I arrived I was given a diesel Audi A4. When I complained I was told that all new cars in Spain were diesel! I didn’t believe them but had no option.

I wouldn't be surprised.

With the exception of the plethora of ancient FIATs that are everywhere, most cars here (Southern Italy) are Diesels - or at least they certainly sound like a Diesel.

I wish you luck because it has AdBlue......

Well I'm sorting it out for her as she does have mental health issues !

It will be somewhat annoying if they don't accept it as a early adopter whilst having the issues of ad blue without the ULEZ advantages :doh::doh::doh::doh::doh::doh::doh::doh:

What about a plumber in a 2015 Euro 5 van that now needs to change up to a Euro 6 van of the same condition, spec, mileage etc? That’s going to cost.

You’re also missing the point about buying and selling, this has been discussed in this thread somewhere.

What kind of ULEZ compliant vehicle can you buy that’s going to be safe, reliable etc for a grand?
The tradesman/woman can claim it back through their tax ....assuming they are paying tax. It could be suggested that a plumber doing 4 jobs in one day inside the zone could add the charge to each customer when actually only paying the charge once . But that would be dishonest. 🤔

We’ve already discussed this before, vans are a tricky one, but the majority of vehicles affected are cars and seeing as vans are commercial vehicles, businesses/sole traders should have planned their finances accordingly in preparation for the transition. Don’t forget there’s also the option of paying the £12.50 fee in the interim, and with the prices some tradesmen charge in London, that shouldn’t be an issue.
Trades can claim it back through their tax. Loophole.

LOL.....if he does not get nicked for that he will for the black and chrome plates on an 89 car!!
You say that , a bloke on my street has a modern Triumph motorbike in a 'retro' style , can't remember which model it is , to add to the retro look he has a black and white number plate .

He has never been stopped by plod , If it was me I probably wouldn't get to the end of our road before being pulled over !
