Hi guys and gals,

Just a quick update to say that I have succesfully retro-fitted COMAND into my 2003 W211 :bannana:

A big thank you first of all to all those who gave help and advice - you know who you are :)

For those who are considering doing this, the total cost was £1000. I provided the headunit and the navigation module myself (which I bought for £500 approx). The installation was done by a chap in Leicester, who also provided the rest of the material (wiring looms, connectors, GPS antenna, DVD, Brackets, trim, etc, ALL MB parts). This guy is amazing! The install took 2 hours, and is exactly like an OEM MB install. He also ran Star diagnostics, so the comand information appears correctly in the cluster, etc. All I have to do now is upgrade the DVD to 5.1:rolleyes:

This chap normally has all the parts in stock, and I honestly believe there is nothing he does not know about comand retrofits. Incidentally, he can do the whole thing for you (ie, provide the headunit and navigation module) and his retrofit would then cost £2100.

Anyway, I had a very good experience, so if anyone wants his contact details, PM me.

Next on the list of mods is retrofitting Parktronic and seat heating... Does anyone know if these can be done ?

Cheers

Parking sensors can be done, not so sure about the seat heating... Nice one mate with the command, best of luck

Well done and again cannot comment on the heated seats, but I believe the only thing stopping you will be the size of your wallet :o :o

If you ever decide to go for linguatronic, can you please keep me updated and also try to take lots of pictures.

Good luck,
John

i was quoted £900.00 for heated seats. Get wife to wear trousers instead.

Well, if she has a big bum then she'll do a good job of keeping the seat warm...!

I have bought the four heating pads for my A class. Total cost circa £240. Just the control unit to get and a wiring loom and its all done (I hope!).

Leather and window tinting coming next week.:bannana:

can you send me details of this Leicester chap? i think i used him before but have lost details.

Hi,

Please visit http://www.mercedescomand.com/ for contact details. The guys who does it is called Mitesh, and he is an absolute genius!! I had never met him before, so was very nervous about letting him loose on my car. But he did the job in less than 2 hours, had all the necessary parts, and the fit is like a genuine MB original fit. You CANNOT tell that the car did not come originally with Comand.

I bought the headunit and navigation module myself from ebay, but you have to be very careful, as I am sure there are a lot of scammers out there, selling stolen goods. All I can say that the seller by the name of "autosound2005" on ebay sold me a genuine item, but of course I cannot guarantee him. Sorry, I do not have part numbers to hand.

Mitesh charged me £500 for the fitting and for the rest of the parts, so my total cost was £1000. Mitesh can do it for £2100 if he supplies ALL the parts.

If you contact him, please tell him that I recommended him, and good luck!

looks good , with that switch pannel it gives scope for the retrofit of a rear blind too :)

Glad your happy with your mod...:D

But surely for it look like factory fit was to be expected....

On 2002 and early 2003 cars those came with an audio gateway (AGW). This lives in the left rear trunk well behind the hinge.

For other later cars without the AGW you have to pull apart most of the left side. Takes about 6 hours.

The results vary according to which year model you started with. You had better flash upgrade the AGW so that it doesnt come on when the car is locked.

All up there are about 60 or 70 retrofits for the W211.

With reference to the W211 Heated Seat Retrofit i've found a retrofit kit

https://www.carmediauk.com/productdet.asp?Id=16&Page=1

Don't know anything about the company, but looks like they know what their talking about.

The OEM solution is to replace the leathers. The heating pad is bonded to the leather. Why people risk non-OEM parts is unclear. If anything goes wrong with the pad and it burns the seat or person then there is no way that Benz will help you.
