Sunroof Woes

Not sure that's any different to the spanner for the roof on the R129 Bill! A Montego though? You've gone down in my estimation ;).

It was a LONG time ago, it was a 2 litre and actually quite quick. At the time it was "estate car of the year" in the What Car awards, I never had any problems with it apart from the inevitable rust which started at about 3 years old IIRC :(

My US VW Corrado had both as factory fitted options.
It always surprises me that you rarely see a C Class in the US without a sunroof, and they're standard on even the entry level 3 Series over there (although it's called a moonroof).

Sunroofs are metal, moonroofs are glass.

In the late 80s I had a Rover Montego estate, the electric tilt/slide sunroof had a drop-down flap by the switch so that you could fit a spanner (which was supplied, and lived in the glove box) to wind it shut WHEN the mechanism failed! :D

(Actually it never did)

When i worked at Leavesden Studios we had a Montego Estate to run around in , i disabled it somewhat by throwing hot water onto the windscreen after a particularly cold night ...... to clear the frost, when we were late for breakfast ...

It was very cold driving it around after that , we had to kick the windscreen out of it ... ( it was only ever used on site , to run food to and from sets when we were filming ) , so never went above 10-15 mph unless we took it on the runway for a spin  , but it was terrifying driving it with no windscreen on the runway ....

Shortly after that the drivers side window exploded while i was winding it up, it had jammed and i was trying to 'free' it, that really was the beginning of the end for the poor old beast, it got to the point that you had to wear a pair of water proof trousers and a jacket to drive it, the seats were so wet ....

Happy days ...
