Hi Guys,

I have a 2003 CLK 55 Convertible and have started to think about supercharging it. The engine has only done 16,000 miles.

Has anyone had an experience with this type of modification or could some kind soul point me in the right direction. Also I’m wondering what sort of power gains are possible and if you need a clutch, brakes etc upgrade to cope with the increase in power.

I'm aware that Kleeman do such an upgrade, but I’m also aware that they charge an astronomical price.

Any advise would be greatly welcomed.

Many thanks,

Nav

All supercharging mods are expensive - to be honest you'd be better off finding a different car. Brakes, transmission etc all need upgrading / ECUs modifying. If you're VERY serious then look on the US forums as they do this a lot. Then see the trouble they've had !

if you want a more powerful CLK, sell yours and buy a 2007 CLK DTM or 2007 CLK Black Series

Kleemann are probably the most experienced in supercharding the N/A engine.

I have thought of Kleemannising before, and came to the conclusion that should I ever do something about it, I would probably take the car on a ferry ride to Denmark. There are lots of Kleemann tuners there, and that's where Kleemann themselves are based. Prices are more reasonable too, even if you take the travel costs into account.

One drawback is that aftersales care might be difficult.

I would think shoehorning in the V8 Kompressor M113 engine and it's components would work out cheaper. There was an engine on eBay for £6k.

£6k, plus the labour charges!! That is a touch more than i was looking at spending!

I thought about doing this to my car about 18 months ago. For the Kleeman supercharger it was around 10K all up.
I decided to wait till the current e55 drops a little more and may be get one of those instead. Overall I didnt think it was worth the money.
Insurance may also be a problem if you add a supercharger on.

If you don't want to spend £6k why not fit a nitrous kit? Serious suggestion - it adds oxygen and allows you to burn more fuel, just like a supercharger. Unlike (most) supercharger installations, it can be switched on and off as needed

You don't need to have a chromed tank in the back window, Wizard of Nos stickers on the front wings and your baseball cap on backwards - but you can if you want to. Personally I think stealthy nitrous must be fun when you're feeling in a cheeky mood!

HPS make a supercharger at £5k and that's the cheapest - there was a thread on one of the US forums 20 pages long with problems a guy had with his.
