Suspension question W210 E55

Hi all

is it possible to remove the air spheres and change the struts to regular ones on a 1998 W210 E55
The spheres and/or tubes are knackered/corroded - so wondered if it can be binned and replaced with regular struts?!

Is this a stupid idea - or mad expensive to do?

Any ideas
