I voted 2 also, on the basis that the manufacturer knows their cars better than anyone else.

Ok. I decided I'm not going to change the springs at themoment because a, I'm concernedabout ride and b, my insurance company arent keen. I am going to fit No1Spring pads.

The choice is therefore now down to OEM shocks, Sachs boge Super touring, Spaxadjustable shocks. I reckon that it has to been Super tourings or Spaxadjustables because OEM is the boring option!

Fitting adjustable shocks are probably pretty pointless unless you take car to the track and probably better off just getting some Bilstein or Sach shocks if you just plan to change the shocks.

My insurance company wasn't too keen for me to fit lowering springs and wanted a extra £100 so I end up getting some Bilstein Sport shocks for my 190. The ride is only slightly firmer but the handling is a lot tighter.

Also original merc shocks are made by either Bilstein or Sach so you can't really go wrong with either. SPAX may be ok at first but I'm not sure how will they be with say 30K on them?

(Here is a SPAX review from a guy who fitted SPAX on his Mondeo)

Graham,

fyi My h&r`s took 3 months to arrive!

I second all the comments on spax had a few sets go faulty :( . One set went leaky within weeks of them being fitted  (reliant scimitar, bottom adjustable not top).
Had very good experiences with koni top adjustable  .(not fitted to a merc though ;) )

Thanks for those reviews on spax adjustables, interestingly I spoke to someone else yesterday who said at 30,000 miles he'd knackered a set.:( Sachs Super Tourings or Bilstein B6 Sports seem like a good idea. Guess what, one of our members is a Sachs Boge Supplier................

OK The deal is done (at last!) . Thanks to everyone for their input particularly Shude for spending time on the EPC for me.

I have just ordered the No1 Spring pads that Shude looked up, from Brabus kent. I have also ordered Sachs Super Tourings shocks from Jimmy.

This should lower the ride height a little and the stance a little as I'm keeping No3s Spring pads at the back. The Sachs shocks will keep an OEM feel but hopefully sport the handling up a bit with the option to fit MB sport springs if it still bothers me later.

Having looked into the subject a lot I reckon, Sachs, Bilstein and Koni are the best shocks. Eibach or MB springs seem to get the best press.

Scuderia Ferrari F1, Mercedes OEM, Brabus Cars, AC Schnitzer, and the Audi 24 hour team all use Sachs so I guess they arent rubbish!

Cant wait for the bits to arrive so I an get them fitted!! :bannana:

I guess I've kind of blurred options 1,2 and 3 altogether!

Oh good! Your original request was to list the parts for if your car was factory equipped with the sports suspension :) .

A BIG THANKYOU

to Jimmy who has managed to track down and buy some Sachs Super Touring Shock absorbers for me. They are on their way to me as we speak and I'll let you know how good they are (as opposed to the excellent reviews I 've already read!)

But the best bit is the price. You will recall that this thread started with MB quoting me £1050 to supply and fit shocks. Jimmy has got the four Sachs shocks for under £200. Yes like £50 each for my model C Class!!!!! Fitting will be £80 so the job will be 1/4 of the MB price and Sachs make the OEM shock and fitting is being done by an MB mechanic!!!!

Cheers Jimmy. Obviously if you are doing shocks see Jimmys Homepage! :bannana: :bannana:

Mercedesfit Bilstein and Sachs asstandard OEM. I then realised that Brabus andFerrari use Sachs and thought they must be good. Then i read a review in German which said that sachs Supertourings offered excellent performance handling and drive for our sort of cars who dont do track use. Then Jimmy said he was getting an account with Sachs, and the rest is History!

I'll try and find some of the write ups of the shocks.

"Sachs Shock Absorber

Comfort and safety first

Reducing the weight and at the same time heightening the comfort and increasing driving safety. These are the maxims of the suspension system technology made by Sachs.
New materials as well as intelligent and optimized production processes are for us the basis for dependable and economical solutions.

This is how we make our damping systems so powerful. A wide range of twin-tube dampers, gas-pressured or hydraulic struts, mono-tube dampers, leveling controls and variable damping systems to replace series dampers and for specific customer demands.
However, oscillation damping in a passenger or commercial vehicle is far more than just the shock absorbers. The strut mountings and shock absorber mountings made by ZF Boge Elastmetall GmbH also guarantee optimal driving comfort and significant noise reduction, all thanks to innovative technology. All this with incredible driving dynamics and utmost safety. "
Highest level of functional safety

With the Super Touring range, Sachs is setting the standard for shock absorbers. Developed and produced with the competence of a leading OEM, they stand for safety, reliability and durability.

The technical equipment has been adapted to meet the requirements of the automobile industry. This guarantees the same level of safety and comfort that you would find in a new vehicle. Top quality materials and processing methods provide corrosion resistance and low wear and tear. Examples of this are chrome-plated and highly polished piston rods and wear-and-tear-proof piston rod guides. The combination of these two components not only guarantees the air-tightness of the shock absorber, but high level of comfort as well thanks to low friction. Additionally, the fact that the water-based lacquer no only provides reliable protection against stones, salt water corrosion and other environmental influences but is also environmentally-friendly (as is the case with all Sachs products), makes the whole thing perfect.

looking forward to hearing how you find them.

what the mileage on your car?
