Taken from AlfaRomeo Forum

"On the Eibach springs + standard dampers, its not behaving properly on my car, as it wallows a bit, and does not control the rear-end oscillations too well. Maybe if paired to Sachs Super Touring shocks, the behaviour would be better."

Looking forward to getting them fitted!

Cor, you have sold them so well I am tempted to get a set for my own!

Greg, you should get them Monday.

Cheers Jimmy! I'm really looking forward to getting them fitted. I'm trying to refind an article I read which was in German. It said they are great
basically giving you good handling but not at the expense of the ride. I'll keep looking.

Just collected my No1 Springpads from Brabus Kent......

From a Saab forum,
"I put in Sachs Super Touring from www.thesaabsite.com
$110 each was a bit hard to swollow on a car that has 110K, but it was worth it. A huge improvement. "

Ought to have bought them from Jimmy!

and from a VW forum

"Eibach makes the best springs in the world but they don't know how to make shocks." They just buy them from sachs and paint them over and put their logo on it."
"Well, first of all, it's not rocket science to know how to make springs; it's just a tube of steel wound into a shape of a coil. Shocks are far harder to design and produce. That's why it makes sense for a spring company (Eibach) to ask a shock company (Sachs) to make it for them, with certain characteristics in mind (progressive rate, particular damping characteristics). Fortunately, Sachs is one of the largest shock companies in the world, and make thousands of OE and aftermarket shocks for vehicles all over the world, following the ISO 9002 quality standard. Eibach never hid the fact that they are Sachs-made. In fact, my ProDampers didn't even have Eibach painted on them (nor on my springs, either!), but they did say Made by Sachs on it."

So Eibach kits are actually Sachs kits.

you have got a good price for your shocks as my bilstein sports were around £115 each. Look forward to the results!

also Sachs makes the shocks for the RS Focus and are used in Petter Solberg Subaru Impreza WRC car

Sachs technology successful in WRC

The 2003 World Rally champion drives with Sachs shock absorbers. The 27-year old Norwegian Petter Solberg secured his first drivers‘ world championship with four victories this season. Suspension technology from the ZF Sachs marque is used in his Subaru Impreza WRC.

well thanks to Jimmy who is obviouly looking after forum members. Thanks also to you Willy coz I think it wasyou who raised the notion of Sport shocks like the B6 for normal suspension. So really it was your idea!

Labelled Sachs Super Touring, made in Germany and the hologram. Can't wait to get them fitted at the weekend.

Looking forward to hearing of the results! :)

Should hopefully be just what you were looking for. :D

Cheers,

Will

I voted for option 2, as that is the setup provided as new by MB on my car. It's a Elegance model with Sports chassis and suspension setup, which is fun to drive. The drive got a lot firmer and lumpier when i fitte 235/40 x 18 PZero's but it is fun coming to a fairly tight corner in an E class and i dont touch the brakes but the pocket rocket that was up my bum one minute is dust in my mirror after the corner.

Can you do me a favour Pietre, in my research I discovered that Advantgarde spec W210 had (sometimes?) Sachs Super touring shocks. Could you put your fronts on full lock and see if you can see a label or any numbers so I can prove the point?

Will have a look tonight and get back to you tomorrow with result. I was thinking of replacing my shocks with MB parts, and after they had printed the delivery spec (thats how we discovered the chassis and susp mods) they said I had to fit Avantgarde spec parts as this was the original fitment

Pietre, I've looked up the Super Touring catalogue and reckon the following part numbers apply but PLEASE check before buying;) I am fallable!

W210

chassis number starting 210.063 Advantgarde suspension Sachs part 124392 Front and 124393 rear

Eleganceor classicpart, just for reference is 124390.

Jimmy will give you the price coz I cant access that! Give us a laugh and ring MB for a price before you ring Jimmy..........

Just had a thought

Why cant say Sachs sports spec shocks i.e the ones they list for the Sport/Esprit models be used on a Classic/Elegance? They would be the same fittings, the only difference would be the damping rate. Possible the length and length of travel may be different but I doubt it.

If this is the case then would it be possible to give a Classic/Elegance a firmer, sportier ride with the Sports spec shocks? Surely the springs just alter the height or are they that much stiffer too?

I notice that Sachs do Super Touring shocks for standard suspension and sports suspension.

Avantgarde suspension from MB is £72.33 lass 10% plus vat each corner.

My reading of the catalogue is that the C Class Super touring shock fits both standard and sports setups in other words the shocks Ive got will also fit a sports model and therefore the stroke length must be acceptable and that also means if I wanted to fit shorter springs later I could keep my super tourings;)

If you go lower than Sports setting then you need to move up to the Performance range which I believe handles car lowered up to 50mm ie. slammed.
