Tail light L, Check Lamp

Hi All

On my C220 I say 2 Malfuntions last light,

1. Tail Light, L Check Lamp
2. Subsitute Lamp is on

I opened the boot and took the cover off switch the lights on but coulndt find a problem, the top bulbs are working fine, is there anything else I need to check?

Sorry if this is a stupid question it is my first Merc, not used to off all this.

Do I need to replace any paticular bulb?

If i am not wrong each tail light has got 4 lamps (bulbs)

This means a bulb has failed or a bulb is about to fail.
The system is quite clever and as the messages suggest it will use the fog lamp as an alternative tail lamp.

Thanks for the reply, so which bulb do I need to change and on which side?

As we have 5 or six, it it the top bulb?

It will be the bottom bulb/s that you need to change. I think there are two (although that might vary by the age of the car).

As stated above, the electronics in the W203 were clever, it a bulb fused it would substitute an alternate bulb for that function.

The front foglight also becomes an indicator if the front indicator fails...
