E55K Estate - Will be missed
Currently running an E55 Estate (w211), can't really complain, been pretty much faultless. BUT... I've always admired a friend of a friends Cayenne Turbo S (2006) . Very nice drive and nearly as powerful as my E55 (I've done pulley/map :)) He's now thinking of selling it..

I don't really do a lot of miles, so MPG not a huge concern, but my brain is telling to stop being stupid , however I'm still very tempted, I could probably sell mine/buy his and only spend another £4k doing it...

Anyone here any experience of one of these beasts ?

The Cayenne Turbo S which is the higher powered one is a monster of a vehicle. I very nearly bought one up in Scotland but when I HPI'd it it had more money than the asking price still owing.
They suffer from the plastic water pipes failing so check to see if its had the aluminium replacements, you can't see them so you would need to see the £1200 invoice to be sure. The rear quarter can leak and cause electrical gremlins plus an idler shaft can play up.
They are superb magic carpet ride cars that leave most cars at the traffic lights standing.
Fuel consumption is cruel but what fun you will have wasting petrol, discs etc are unique to the proper Turbo S and quite expensive but it is a lovely vehicle.

I had one with a re-map and it was very good, loves a drink of fuel but if that does not bother you have fun, surprisingly quick point to point and I had no problems, I just chopped it for a M3 as I wanted something more nimble.

So Peeps who've had them loved them, peeps who've not, say they're trouble, sounds about right ;-)

Checked my MPG on the E55, in last 3500miles I'm averaging 18mpg, so probably similar to the Cayenne..

I think I need to go and do a proper test drive of my friends again to convince myself...

Forum member Cyclone owned one for quite some time, I'm sure he'll pop up at some point.

To be honest, no. I wasn't considering changing until the owner of the Cayenne wanted to sell.. I'm drawn towards the Turbo S for the huge torque potential, still ever so slightly addicted ft/lbs :)

Plus I'm in the mood for a new marque and have had good times with porca turbos in the past.

Sheepy67 has or had one. There might be some useful nuggets in his threads.

I don't blame you at all, although they upped the power with the later 4.8 engine the 4.5 litre 2006 car is a unique brute.
As I mentioned just be aware of the coolant pipe issue as it is something that quite a few suffered from if I remember correctly there were a few specialist who do the work but it does cost £1200.
Like you I only do a low mileage each year so low to mid teens of MPG doesn't worry me.
Mind you in the end I bought a V10 twin turbo diesel Phaeton which has monster torque and four wheel drive as my daily drive.

I am now on my second Cayenne, whilst I have not owned a Turbo, if you can, try and get a Gen 2 cayenne (957) made from 2007 onwards as they are much better built with a lot of the common Cayenne niggles such as the gearbox, electrical gremlins and air suspension issues sorted.

I used to own a 2005 Cayenne Turbo. It was an amazing truck and very capable. I do miss it.

What I do not miss though is the terrible fuel consumption, it was just more like 10mpg. My C63 is sooo much better on fuel in comparison.

Things to look out for are that the plastic coolant pipes have been upgraded to the aluminium ones as already mentioned. Check the cardan drive shaft, the bearing lasts for around 60k miles before wanting replacing.

Water ingress is a problem with these, check for signs of water damage. This happens when the roof drains become blocked and are not dealt with on time.

Make sure you definitely test ALL the electrics. These do suffer from gremlins, especially the climate control/heater temperature control rotors. These commonly fail and are very expensive to replace due to the teardown required.

Make sure the Air Suspension is in good order, a new strut is around £2K per corner. Make sure the compressor works fine.

Ensure the front doors have not dropped, this can happen. Just make sure they line up good when closed.

Lastly, check the audio/nav system.

EDIT: I have to agree with Tan, make sure it is a facelift 2007+ one.

Guys,

Thanks for the replies... The car in question is a 2006, so if i do it, no choice on that, I understand the facelift would be a better choice, but suspect a 2007+ TT S would be out of the price range I'm in, apart from fact there does not seem to be a lot of these about!

Just make sure when you walk to it, to get in, you close your eyes. Disgusting looking thing. I wouldn't trade a E55 for 2 of em personally lol.

hahaha, don't worry, I'll sneak up from behind :)

There are not many about, they only appeared in 2006 in true Turbo S guise.
If you go over to Pistonheads I started a thread some time ago about the 2006 Turbo S and the chap Henry who runs a big independent Porsche dealer runs one and gave a good insight into that particular model. It was not that long ago you couldn't get one for less than £30K the dark blue and black suit it well and some came with aluminium rear spoiler and bits.

Never owned one nor would I but I had a feeling 18mpg might have been optimistic for the Porker, Guyvert!

Good man-maths though... :D

H20 , So was that 10mpg all the time ?

After chatting to my guy he says that sort of mpg is local town stop start , on runs he saw 18s regular
