Just for a bit of fun this.

I'm sure most of you will know of Roadcraft - for those that don't Roadcraft is a road biased (rather than racing biased) approach to vehicle control taught to all Police drivers and used as the basis for other advanced driving courses and by the Institute of Advanced Motorists, as a means of teaching drivers/ riders to become safer and more skilful.

The link below takes you to a sort quiz which is similar to part of the theory section of Roadcraft - be interested to hear how others get on.

The Roadcraft Quiz

Been several years since I last underwent any training but I got a more than reasonable 88% - stuffed up on the alcohol breath limit, tramways and the road sign

BTW I am not and never have been an 'officer of the luuuur' - though I have 'occasionally' had to speak with one..... :o

I only managed 11 - and I read Roadcraft many times before taking my driving test (in 1968!!).

Not much better - 14/26

Your Rating: 15 of 26 (58%)

Honestly thought I did better than that, but I've never even heard of "road craft" before reading this page...

At least it tells you afterwards which you got wrong.

Roadcraft tells us that overtaking is hazardous for which one of the following reasons?
Your Answer: You can never be completely sure it is safe.
The correct answer was: You put your vehicle in the path of any oncoming vehicle

I call bollix - when I overtake on dual carriageways and motorways I don't put my vehicle in the path of on coming traffic.

Was roadcraft created in the 1940's before we had big boys roads ? :D

A disappointing 16 (62%). Quite disgraceful really when you consider I was judged as "Excellent" on a recent Advanced Driving assessment. My vehicle handling and placement skills are clearly better than my theory knowledge.

Same here... :(

'Your Rating: 16 of 26 (62%)
You answered 26 (100%) and skipped 0 (00%)
Of the questions you answered, you got 62% right.
A reasonable effort, well done. '

To be fair, some of the question are not asking what you should or should not do... but what is written in the book. Your answers may have been correct from a driving perspective but incorrect as far as memorising the rules goes..

No excuses, we should all know the Highway code, but just to say that the results do not necessarily make us poor drivers :)

My thoughts too. There's often a difference between knowing the rules and knowing what's best in the precise circumstances. The milligrammmes of alcohol to millilitres of breath shouldn't be a target to stay within the law. Knowing the braking distance from 40mph isn't any use if you can't point out where that measurement is from you.

Well to be fair to all, the quiz assumes you have a knowledge of the Highway Code, vehicle dynamics and Roadcraft, so don't feel too bad.

I agree, there are some questions for which there is more than one viable answer but as far as Roadcraft is concerned only one that is correct.

A great driver isn't one that 'knows it all' but one that learns from their mistakes and keeps on getting better everyday - if the test teaches us something we didn't know before then it's been worth doing.

Thank you all for your input and your candour :thumb:

I got 14 out of 26 =54%.

Quite a few that I was 50/50 on I picked the wrong one!

Interesting though.

65%, but seeing as I'm a police driver, that's very poor

That makes me feel a bit better about my 46%, though some of the statements given a couple of them make sense, but may not be what is printed in the book.

Your Rating: 12 of 26 (46%)

Of the questions you answered, you got 46% right.

Well, at least you had a go.

I've never read Roadcraft, so, like others who also haven't read it, I was never going to get near to full marks.
Some of my incorrect answers were not the answer in Roadcraft, but IMHO were perfectly good answers.

65%.

Never heard of Roadcraft before.
