Test Your Driving Knowledge

I feel better about my score of 50-something yesterday. Some of the questions were very oddly phrased and the answer wasn't intuitive.

I agree with all the points above, especially that awareness is far more useful than knowledge.

14/26 for me. Got the first 5 wrong and thought the worst.

I've never read the Roadcraft book or heard of it either, but seeing our resident police driver scored equally I'm not so teed off:D

58% more by than luck than judgement. Lots of guesses more of a historical exercise....

...Road craft is a good start for those embarking on IAM or RoSPA but it's not the driving bible it used to be. However I have to say Police class 1 pursuit training has moved massively and there are some really talented individuals out there including at least 2 members if this forum I know of

Perhaps they can advise how important is it for a police driver in to know the Highway Code during pursuit...? :D

I'm still the worst, glad others have also never heard of Roadcraft also.

Hardly a real issue. With all the grockles about, you're probably about the safest driver on the IOW roads.

And a simple question where do you give way to predestrians

I didn't do too bad but thought some of the questions irrelevant, dated and frankly put in to catch you out. Although like several others I got this right from pure luck, has anyone ever seen the sign where you can only proceed pushing a bicycle.

A quiz on safe driving shouldn't be about memorizing outdated and obscure aspects of the highway code, it should be about mainstream everyday things that really contribute to safety.

Your Rating: 19 of 26 (73%)

You answered 26 (100%) and skipped 0 (00%)

Of the questions you answered, you got 73% right.

A reasonable effort, well done.

Years ago I was on loads of training with traffic officers who were blisteringly quick on the straight and around one corner but then through the S bends or chicanes were hopeless usually ending with an off because they did not know how to balance the car to carry the speed through the corners

The training varies from force to force, surprisingly.

When I did the advanced course in 1990, the straight roads were only used to get to the twisty roads, normally only at the beginning and at the end of the day.

I also wonder if the younger guys have ever driven a car without driver aids which is why they struggle with balancing the car through bends.

So,
14 / 26 a miserable 54%,
I did hope to do better, as we all did !, but some questions were somewhat vague and I answered with regard to safety and due regard to other road users. Obviously that was not the way to go.
It has been 40 years since I last looked at a Highway Code, although I did tackle an online Theory Test a few weeks ago (just for amusement) and only managed 2 wrong answers. ( Towing a trailer speed limits). So I cannot be that unknowledgeable.
At age 62 I am not going to let 54% bother me nor will I be changing my driving habits of a lifetime.
Come the time that compulsory age related tests are mandatory then I will no doubt review the Highway Code and see what has changed.
Steve.

And a simple question where do you give way to predestrians

When you're driving on the pavement.

And yes - I agree that the questions were outdated, irrelevant, misleading and meant to trick me.
Otherwise I would have scored 110% 'cos I'm a brilliant driver, and don't need to learn anything.

Keep out of my way!!

9 out of 26....You may know something about something, but not this subject.

13/26 - some questions seemed deliberately vague

15/26 for me, though I also re-ran it with 26/26 so as to intimidate PXW Junior (now a driver himself). He managed 11/26, which I think he found a bit chastening given that he only passed his test in April so currently thinks he knows it all!
