The 2020 CL215 Owners Register

I used the BOSE amp from a same year AMG CLK, I had to trim a key way in the plug with a scalpel, as it was positioned very slightly offset, but it worked perfectly. (And was cheap on eBay) the part numbers were fairly similar.
Thanks for this work around, sounds a good option. I am just waiting to see if worth repairing as found a company now called Cartronics who charge £79 to look at it and diagnose and will provide a quote to fix.

If you agree the quote they waive the fee but if you don’t go ahead (which I might not if not cost-effective as will look at sourcing a replacement second hand) the cost stands which is fair enough I guess as covers their cost to look at it and post back.

Prefer to have correct amp but good to know there is another way around this which I may well take 😁.

Good to see renewed input from members, apologies for absence here but non COVID illness has interfered

Good to see you Simon and hope you are recovering well?

Just back from a trip to the cinema in my CL55 with my son as we went to see the new Matrix which was really good.

What service is due and what cost are you looking at, as always interesting to compare?

Best regards

Peter

Thank you Pete, fortunately not a wheelchair case & I can still drive & an operation due next month with limited mobility for a few months, which is OK.

Servicing will now be via my local "Indy" who is both very experienced & competitive with pricing.
The car although a "daily driver" (With regular weekly fun runs to keep all systems operative & healthy)
only completes 3-4k a year so it goes for an annual "A" service with time related jobs added as required.

The "planned servicing" consists of renewing the PSE vacuum pump & front valve block with items
that I have overhauled in readiness.

I loved mine so much, I bought it back from Terry at WG a few months ago. Last owned in 2015

65 amg brake calipers
2 piece discs
2 piece 65 amg wheels
Pulley, water meth, tcu/ecu tune, bwk etc.

It's getting a full resto as it's in a bit of state, will be the subject of a few of our videos this year :)

Very good indeed to have Alex on the Register, he runs a well established Independant Mercedes Specialist establishment
in Tonbridge Kent. He is one of the "Indys " who owned & enjoyed a CL215 in the past & then several years later actually bought his old car back again to renew the pleasure.
This , from a professional Mercedes Specialist provides an accolade for the model.
Those of you that enjoy modifying & personalising your CL will have noted the changes to his car
Alex is a llong term member & a well respected contributor to many Mercedes forums & it is a pleasure to have him with us.

The videos sound interesting Alex, will they be on your website ?

Thanks Simon!

I have just posted a thread up to my youtube channel, where they will be posted. I will pull the car out next week to do an into video on it, as it has been horrible weather here.

I LOVED my 215, so much so that I am putting a significant amount of time and money into resurrecting it. I also have a C140, which is obejectively a better built car, but there is something about the 215, with its idiosyncracies which draws me back (maybe I am under the influence of petrol vapour!?)

I cannot wait to get it back on the road.

Ah ! yes, I have found the videos & a very impressive setup too Alex.
It is very pleasing to find someone like you with such a high degree of enthusiasm for the
car.
have to admit that at first with mine having a string of faults, I was not totally enthralled:
however,. as time & improvements progressed I have come to appreciate its attraction & am
now fully addicted.

Hi All,

I'd like to join the group please. I own a 2004 Silver CL500 with grey leather and burr walnut trim. The car has Keyless Go, Distronic and 19" AMG wheels. I've owned it about 6 months now and so far I had the belt idler pulley disintegrate (easy change, did it myself), drivers repeater indicator in mirror failed (easy change, did it myself), changed the battery, replaced the cases to the keys as they were worn out, ABC pump failure (replaced by local INDY using a reconditioned pump I sourced in Germany with 2 year guarantee), "A" service by local INDY. I bought the car with no service history!!!

I think these cars are still stunning. A client of mine had one 20 years ago and I promised myself that one day I'd have one too; now I have! It drives beautifully, with 97k miles.

I had it detailed and ceramic coated and I never fail to stop and look back at it when I walk away, it is very pretty! I'd like to replace the steering wheel with the wood trimmed version if I can find one.

Good to have you join us Jason, your CL looks in very good condition and see you have had your share of teething issues as we all do. Agree on the looks of our cars and I have had so many compliments and thumbs up when out in my CL55 AMG (which is silver too but with black interior). Fabulous from any angle.

Thanks Simon!

Hi Alex, I have a feeling it is just that type of car, you sell it and miss it, so buy it back if you can find it or buy another. Great to have you join us and fantastic that you are a Mercedes Indy specialist too, apologies in advance for all my mechanical questions coming your way 😁.

I have the 'sunroof' issue, tilt works fine but not sliding back now, but was working fine previously, so I think from reading up before it needs an oil, so any help on this would be most welcome, where do I apply the oil? Especially if it won't open fully? Just tilt it and pop it where I can see the workings?
Hi Pete - Did you resolve your sticking sunroof? Mine is now doing the same thing, tilts okay but doesn't want to slide....

Hi Jason, well I had it looked at when it was last in for some work and my garage diagnosed that it is corrosion on the roof panel which is deforming the seal, so not allowing full movement of the sunroof.

I have had two local bodywork garages look at it and both suggesting entire roof re-spray as opposed to a small spot fix, so on my list of 'to do's', but not essential through the winter, but I will have it sorted as its good to have everything working.

So have a good look on yours when open and see if you can see any corrosion around the sunroof area where the rubber sits.

There also is a 'reset' for the windows and sunroof which I tried but that didn't fix it, I did that prior to asking the garage to look at it, so will dig out how to do that as worth a punt, as sure someone let me know how to do that on the forum, so others may remind us both.

Hope that helps?

Pete

Thanks for that. I'll have a look at the weekend. Hopefully nothing too serious. As you say it is winter so no immediate problem!

I don’t know about you, but when we have a day like yesterday, I have the urge to take a trip out in my CL. So this was my Friday lunch excursion to Leaf & Ground cafe farm shop in Dursley, Gloucestershire. Lovely grounds for walks and photo shoots. Where have you been lately in your CL?

Looks like a lovely day for a drive Pete. I had to go to work today, about 20 miles mix of A roads and back roads. Decided the CL would benefit from a trip to warm up and charge the battery a bit. Sublime trip, car went beautifully and left the suspension in convenience so very comfortable journey. Got to go in tomorrow too, so it will get another trip then (unless it's really sunny 'cos the SLK might come out of the garage then).

Welcome to the register Jason, I hope that you find some of the information listed here of interest . Snippets contains a considerable amount of interesting material.

Very good to learn that some members have are enjoying the mild weather & using
their cars, unquestionably they really benefit from regular use (Especially the electrics.

As a point of interest> How many members are using their cars as "Daily Drivers " ?

We have a little Fiat Panda for nipping into the local town, but for trips to the larger towns half an hour away we have been using the CL. Bought it in 2014 with 46K miles and it's now on 68K. Don't want to put too many more regular miles on so just bought a diesel Citroen C6 ... yes, I know!

In old money the CL gives approx. 28 mpg (nice country roads, 80kph limit and speed control built into the passenger seat 🙄), so pretty good for a V12 as it just motors along on the torque. I'm hoping for another 10+ mpg from the C6, plus it's a lovely ride.

Totally agree on the benefits of regular use Simon, I drive my CL two or three times a week on average but we do have a main family car for the daily journeys.
