The best way to ruin your Mercedes-Benz is...

I'm specifically referring to the AMG trim models in every merc lineup. Honestly why have AMG badges, trims wheels etc when it's nothing to do with models coming out of the AMG factory. Surely it devalues the AMG brand when it's a trim option on every model.???

Since it's been owned by Daimler, I can't imagine why any one (or any business) would want to buy the AMG brand anyway? If anything, the brand is now better known than it ever has been, and so possibly more valuable as a brand. But, then again, I'm no branding expert.

Mercedes makes a lot more money selling people cars that 'look' like AMG, than actual AMGs. Whilst AMGs are undoubtedly mighty machines, the brand is maximised/exploited/b'stardised by MB on lesser cars. It's an ingenious way to make a 4 pot diesel look like a performance car.

Some might argue they've gone too far with the W205. C63(S) looks way too similar to 'AMG Line' unless you know what you're looking for.

No different to S-Line and M Sport.

I can see what you mean but either way seeing an AMG badged car on the road has lost the wow factor for me. Like has been said on a lot of them I really can't tell what's an AMG and what's not. Sometimes the quad pipes at the back designating a V8 are the only signs.

.......... Allow my missus to drive it( bearing in mind most of the major controls are treated like switches!:) )

Devalues the brand???? Who cares? Does it stop an AMG from being the same car it was before someone stuck a badge on a cooking model? Nope!

If you are buying a car for the brand then you need to get a sense of perspective IMO!

Mind you that's what sells most low end Mercs I guess as they are hardly the best cars on the road!

Is to post about what you've done to it on here leaving you to the forum 'firing squad' and nay-sayers :thumb:

Each to their own, if it makes you happy do it

The only mod I have done to my car is to add a California scents to the interior, but I double checked to make sure it did not have AMG on the packet :thumb:

I needed car mats for mine and could only find ones stitched with AMG on them

I still need car mats

Ha... Amazing. Said the man who drives a Mercedes in a Mercedes owners club online forum.

To be fair, aside from the ignorant, I think most people do this.

I work in a Volvo environment, and many people just want to stick with the brand due to the level of customer focus, safety and all-round brand performance that they offer. The same can be said of different brands, with some people only sticking with Peugeot because they like having hot hatches, or Ford because they've always had a good experience with Focus's etc.

The only one I've never really understood is VW - I don't actually understand why people obsess over the brand so much, as the product is generally overpriced and under engineered in terms of performance, styling and durability. :dk: (and emissions!)

I think Audi/VW are more like the iPhone of the industry, not Mercedes (in terms of blind following/consumerism).

Anyway, best way to ruin a Mercedes is to put Halfords style alloy wheels on it. Or actually any non-OE style modifications.

Is to remove that iconic three pointed star emblem from the bonnet----------Oh! -----Mercedes have already done that all by themselves. :wallbash: ------- or "Das Beste oder Nichts BRUV " as ol Gottlieb would say to his homies
The only time the iconic badge looks right is on an open top model, with some bloke in a uniform standing up while he's being driven through town on his way to tell the Vichy government how it's gonna be .

I bought mine as I liked the looks and the performance. I also own a Mazda because it has a huge load space and never breaks down. I didn't buy either of them because of the 'brand'.

Is that too hard for you to understand?

Lunatic Alert.

Lol, yes that guy is a real laugh and nutcase...he blows loads of stuff up trying out all kinds of dangerous toys...his YouTube ad revenue obviously pays well...

And he cracks me up with his final '...and as always, have a nice day!' said with a tongue in cheek big grin ;)

Best way to ruin a Merc is to buy a manual green or red one and then put Kahn wheels on it.

How to lose thousands with the turn of a key!

The best way to ruin your Mercedes-Benz is to ... stick a Bmw badge on it :D:D

And an M badge :D to your AMG
