The Big 80 car+ summer GTG is aways a good day out. Previously held at Jimmys twice and Maffs once. I know its a long way south but The Bridgewood Manor where we had our last southern GTG has excellent facilities, big car parks, free refreshments, loo's, and is a nice place to stay especially if you get a weekend break.

What do people think of it as a venue for the Big GTG or is it just TOO far south??

Comments welcome. :)

I understand that in principle but the attendance at our southern ones is getting bigger and bigger and at the end of the day an awful lot of people do live in Londaon and the Southeast. (Some would say too many;) )

There is the possibility to have another Summer GTG at my place, but was going to have a chat to a few members first, but in essence, your more than welcome as you were all last time. :D

What about the Welsh? You know, the one's that are good at Rugby :D
I'd bring some welsh cakes. ;)

In my opinion, Clumber 2005 should be the BIG GTG. Perfect location for a summers day, as much space as possible and facilites suitable enough.

Far enough North to attract most members and poosibly those from Scotland too and a possible day trip for the southerners, although many will be stopping over for the evening anyway.

Clumber 2005

You boys gotta explore outside the Kent borders sometime!

Thanks G - I tend to agree - Clumber is perfectly located and an excellent location.

I'm not sure about the others but for us Matt's was a great place for a gtg and the one he held there was a superb day for all.

for some of us Clumber is just too far (450 mile round trip) or impractical (young kids, pets etc all rule out overnighters and make long journeys almost impossible). I realise it's in the Midlands but being from that area originally I'm the first to admit it's hardly "central" :)

Speaking personally I dont mind where the GTG's are held. It gives both me and the Mrs. a chance to get out and meet like minded people. Through past GTG's I have met some extremely nice people, made some good deals, come back with loads of ideas and I hope given others some hints or tips. I have been able to run my car as it should be run. I have seen cars belonging to other members that I drool over. So for me, anywhere, I will be there.

..... anywhere with a skip will do for me (to hide the car behind ;))

Historically however Jimmy's and Matt's have been the most frequented. The last Clumber one was poor by comparison.

Last minute oraganisation by comparison too. I missed Maff's offer above however and think it's a great idea.

If not as the Bridgewood then my next choice would be Maffs.

the Bridgewood is OK but I wouldn't say it was ideal for a whole day, no barbecue facilities nothing for kids and whether or not they would put up with us filling their car park all day is another matter :)

BBQ is in the middle of the courtyard I believe. Maybe we could do a Southern Summer GTG then.........

will i put the wheels in motion for visas for you guys to leave the south ?

The Bridgewood is a really nice place for lunchtime gtgs etc on a fairly small scale and their generous hospitality seems great but surely at some point they are going to want to see some sort of return (in the way of bar takings etc) after all they are running a business.

OK. a few of us stayed for a couple of beers but I suspect that when the hotel did the maths they would have been a bit dissapointed in the "take" - less than £50 would be my initial guess and from a party of about 20 people who had free tea and coffee that's not good :(

In order to remain welcome at places like this we need to make sure we spend - maybe book a table or two in the restaurant when we ring up to ask about using their facilities.
