The E63 I now own.

I’m assuming this was a bore-scope type deal, but who knows- maybe they whip the heads off for a good look.

I’d imagine a borescope inspection - they wouldn’t be dismantling anything significant for £600 :)

I suspect that you are correct.

I (as advised - thanks) found a USB port in the cubby under the arm-rest, which I plugged my phone into.

You can identify the phone as a bluetooth source and stream music to the head unit, although when I tested this it was a little sporadic, but I was in reach of my home wifi network so it might have been the phone switching between cellular and wifi. More investigation needed, but this is positive - my C55 couldn't do this.

There's a mystery port in the cubby which I don't recognise- what does this do please?

I could be talking complete rubbish as usual but that "mystery" port could be USB charging only as opposed to the other which is charging & connectivity.

It's the Media Interface port, and there should be a set of 3 leads that connect to it.

With the appropriate lead(s) you can connect an iPhone to it and control playback from the head unit / steering wheel controls.

Ah, I thought the OP was still referring to the "cubby" under the armrest as opposed to the glove compartment/butty box, which does indeed house the media i/f.

I am indeed referring to the cubby that's underneath your left elbow.

This is the port:

Looks like the media interface to me - if you connect your phone through the appropriate cable then you’ll be able to control your phone through COMAND. Take care when ordering to make sure it’s the correct one for your model. Sit down, they’re not cheap.

Yup, that's the Media Interface port.

This is the cable set: Media Interface cable set for NTG4.5 vehicles MY2013 onward (except SLK)

Note that if you want to connect an iPhone you will also need a genuine Apple 30-pin to Lightning converter. Pattern ones may, but generally don't, work.

Would this one, with a Lightning connector natively, not work?

I believe so. Easy enough to confirm by giving the chaps at COMAND Online a ring,

I'm amazed at the way this thread developed and the advice provided to Damnit. Props to all forum users!

I never had a need to post anything but i hope you enjoy your new wagon.

Regarding the cable situation. I sold a set of cables for £20 not to long ago on ebay. You can grab a set of ebay used for a decent price and as recommended will need a 30pin to lightning adapter.

The only one you need though is A0018278404 followed by 30 pin to lightning adapter if you want to connect your phone.

Not sure why the prices are so extortionate!

I have a media interface cable with lightning connector - and no Adaptor - in some of our cars, so it’s worth double checking to see if they’re available for your car before buying. You main dealer may help but in would just go straight to CommandOnline 👍🏻

£5.50 delivered -

Yes, I am definitely interested in getting a set.
OK drop me a private message with a price plus postage and we can hopefully sort something out. Looks like we are 150 miles or soapart so post would be necessary. Just to correct I've just noticed the bag has been opened but it has 3 cables with various connectors that I never used

My car parked itself tonight as I sat there and enjoyed watching the wheel whirl around as if by magic.

I'm struggling to think of a reason to keep the plastic box/shelf thing that is meant to hold the easy-pack telescopic gubbins, unless MB put it in there to stop the subwoofer being crushed by heavy items put under the carpeted floor?
