The E63 I now own.

Obtain a price from your local commercial dealer for the battery, there is one in dartford -

Do not tell them its for a car, just quote the part no from your battery.

You should contact the dealer principal/general manager and let them know what's going on. I had an issue with Mercedes Cheshire Oaks, where my transmission was overheating. They fobbed me off a couple of times over the phone, but on inspection the charge cooler was damaged - cost £1500

I found out the general manager's name and connected with him on LinkedIn because I couldn't get contact details anywhere else. He was brilliant, did me a deal on the charge cooler and also gave me a free MOT. I suspect some sloppy service advisor also copped for it too.

Ultimately he/she carries the can, and so you'd hope that he/she would be the one person there who really cares. If not then avoid the place like the plague.

Good luck and good thread this one.....

£355 labour

That must be a miskey....it takes 30 mins at most, including moving the car from the forecourt into the service bay....

Is there a part number for the battery further up the page?

Without further details, I think that quote is beyond a joke. I would have thought there is a book time to replace that battery and I can’t see it amounting to that - even if there’s any kind of specialist programming/resetting codes or whatever.

Get the car back, leave their car park in a cloud of smoke and head over to Guildford! ;)

As long as the tyres/wheels are OK, then get yourself a CTEK charger or other make that does the job on your way home. Connect it up overnight or two then Bob's your uncle. If you have not used battery conditioners before, you will be surprised how good value for money they are. Battery will last for much longer, reminds me best to connect mine!

If it's the original battery on a 2015 car, it could well need replacing. The AGM battery doesn't last as long as the lead acid one.
But in any case, if the battery can be hooked up overnight, a Ctek battery conditioner is an excellent buy. I've used mine on a couple of occasions this year due to non use of the car.

A main battery is about £200 from a dealer or a Bosch on the open market for £175. It's in the boot and easily accessible so can be changed in 5 minutes.

I don't have an auxiliary battery but I would expect the cost to be the same or less.

The main battery is in the engine bay on a 5.5TT.
The video shows the aux battery in the boot of a saloon.

I knew the video was the auxiliary battery but I guessed wrong about the main battery then. I (wrongly in this case) assumed it would be in the boot as all the large engine RWD cars I've had that's where it is, including my S204. Changing a battery is still easy in the engine bay though so that quote is beyond ridiculous.

Well, the car is back home again - I got MB Bromley to do the work after Harratt's said that they'd pay for it. To give Harratt's credit where it's due they didn't quibble, and they'd put the money into my account before I'd finished walking to MB Bromley.

Good news - the stop/start now works! I find it (so far, on one admittedly short journey) to be very good, the engine springs back into life as soon as you take your foot off the brake.

Bad (but expected) - if you thought that Mercedes Benz Bromley is going to wash your car after charging you £700 for a battery you my friend are living in a fantasy world. I have no idea what sort of money you'd need to spend with them to score a complimentary car wash, but I suspect it's well into the six figures.

I'll be going to another MB dealer for annual servicing to preserve my FMBSH, and I'll get any other work that's needed done by an independent - this experience at Mercedes Benz Bromley has made that decision a very easy one.

With a dealership who are so inept at what they do, would you trust them with your paint finish as well ?
I think you're lucky that they didn't wash it, can you imagine the swirls in the bodywork ! :wallbash:
This is very true

Bought exact same battery, A0019828108 from Edinburgh in 2017 for £150.54 (retail £231.60). Even with any increases would still have been way below £200.

@Dammit I think you were mad to pay in excess of £400 to fit a battery regardless of who was paying.
This is nothing more than daylight robbery.

I'd have paid them what was agreed and took the car away.
Then dealt with the garage that sold you the car and got it done elsewhere then posted it all over social media how much you saved.

Some of these "garages" sadly are nothing more than rip off merchants.

Honestly I just wanted it done and prioritised convenience over pretty much everything else, otherwise I could see days of time vanishing into the task of taking the car to places, waiting around etc. I admit that I am very lazy.
