The E63 I now own.

It's perfectly possible that I'm oddly shaped.
Not had a problem with any MB as yet, S212 may be my next so will have a good test drive or two before incase. I had a big problem with the then new 2009 Astra. A work car but travelling 2500 ish miles monthly. I found that the pedals where offset for me, couldn’t change anything about the seat. None of the other engineers had a problem, I’m sort of normal size and build too.
Eventually through constant shifting to keep comfortable and sitting badly my back went into spasm, right hip locked up and thought the worse. Ditched the car and all okay after a few weeks.
Hope you work some thing out, lots of “how to sit correctly” “adjust for comfort” videos around.

Is this just the E-Class ?

Until this anomaly was mentioned, I never noticed anything untoward in either my W211 or W212. Certainly no discomfort driving.
Must be one of the lucky one:dk:
It is in the W211 but feels a lot more pronounced in the W212.

Nope, I don't get any off center driving feel or discomfort. Don't know what your rumbling on about to be honest!!!!

Yeah, the W212 6.2 to be exact, I mean come on, it has to have "one" fault 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

Are you going to ruin everyone's thread with your incessant 6.2 rambling. Nobody cares, if you hadn't noticed by now.😴😴😴😴

Ok, I don't feel or notice any of the shit a certain member describeds on Our "S211"
Or my previous W211.

It's seems some people throw there toys out the pram at the most minimal of supposed driving discomforts 🤔.

"Drive the poxy thing" wasting your life finding the smallest of faults, if there are any to begin with. 🥴🥴🥴🥴

^ Why are you unable to accept a few people have noticed an offset driving position.
I haven't ,but don't lose my rag because it doesn't fit in with my way of thinking.

Seems around your way there is only one opinion...............yours.

No "RAG" lost here boss, I'm just giving my opinion!!

I drive my vehicle's I don't look out for the most minimal of supposed defects.

I'm out, I don't want to "Ruin" another thread!!!!

There goes a man who has presumably never suffered from back-ache.

Todays quick run to Sainos revealed that the official Mercedes media cable plus an OEM Apple 30 pin to Lightning adapter do not allow my iPhone 12 to speak to the COMAND system, but do charge the phone.

I can stream off my phone using Bluetooth though, so not a huge deal. I might look out for an older iPod and leave it in the car as a music store.

Boot- I’ve now tested this from the fob, the boot release on the boot and the release in the drivers door card; roughly 50% of the time it opens, then stops with around a 6” gap between the bumper and the bottom of the hatch. If you then trigger the release again the boot opens fully. Is there something obvious I can do about this?

Are you sure that they’re the right cables? I seem to recall that the media interface connector is the same on two different cables but one is compatible with one set of models, and the other is compatible with another set of models.

I am absolutely unsure whether I have the correct one, and circumstantial evidence would suggest that I may have the wrong one. Let me see if I can find the part number to confirm whether I am an idiot.

The cable is “Mercedes Ipod Iphone Connection Cable lead A0018278404”.

Might be worth a call to CommandOnline to check - if it’s the wrong one then they’ll be able to sell you the right one 👍🏻

I'll be running the car round to them for a reversing camera to be fitted so I'll ask then.

DDR spent two hours going over the car today - said it's fundamentally a good car, one that they'd have no problems buying.

The rear discs and pads are a little low and will need changing sooner rather than later, but more later than sooner.

Other than that - clean bill of health (they reckon the stop/start issue is likely something annoying such as a software update required on a module which is either sending or not sending a signal that the system is looking for in order to engage, but that no physical component is borked).

However - the tailgate motor is on its way out, and will need changing. For DDR to do this is not cheap as the headlining needs to come out, and it's a lot of labour.

Has anyone else had this and changed the motor? If so, what was it like, as a task?

Not the same issue but I need to have the gas springs replaced on my 211 which has a power boot. Whilst I'm at it, I've asked for the motor for the boot-skirt mechanism to be replaced (I have the part) and was quoted £200 by Wayne Gates in Harrow.

It involves dropping the headlining.

Interesting- thanks. I shall ask them.

DDR pointed out that Mercedes Wakefield (still!) haven’t updated the digital service record with the recent B service, so I need to call them tomorrow. Is it common for official Mercedes places to miss this admin task?

You're likely to speak with Terry. He is the proprietor and a good egg.

It’s that not uncommon, either for them to forget to enter it or on occasion mistakes can be found eg compared against the paperwork. It’s important that it’s corrected promptly as I’ve a feeling mistakes cannot be easily rectified after a certain period - 30 days or 3 months spring to mind, not 100% sure.

Remember that black E63 wagon you looked at - the one that was serviced at Brooklands?

My old E63 had a service before I bought it, and I had to email a couple of times to get the DSB updated properly - they had put in a different mileage reading (I think from another vehicle) and I think they mixed up A and B for the service type etc. Got there in the end though.

To be fair, it’s little different to any electronic records that are entered manually in a busy environment - eg MOT records with incorrect odometer readings. Or my favourite was my old CLK55 that the DVLA had down with a fifty-four litre engine :D

I'm confident that we can resolve the stop-start thing, the only real question is who pays for it (and to what extent things need to be changed to achieve it).

However, one thing that is taking up my spare thoughts today is the pedal offset, which is leading to back-ache - something referenced in another thread that is current in this section of the forum.

The accelerator pedal is quite far to the right, my natural foot position falls on the brake pedal.

I'm going to have a play around with seat position to see if maybe moving the seat up changes the angle sufficiently to avoid back pain, but it's a bit of a puzzle to me why Mercedes offset the pedals so far.

I will need to fix this as there's no current M5 Touring, and the RS6 Avant is not for me.

Alpina B5 Touring it is then!
