The E63 I now own.

Yes- I have looked, rare cars!

Hour and a half in the car this morning to Winchester- back ache from around 50 minutes. Clearly I’ve not resolved this by playing with seating position. The position of the accelerator means that my right leg is in a man-spreading type pose, which I think is putting strain on my lower back, in contrast my 911 has a Recaro SPG bucket seat in it which keeps both legs very primly together, with zero strain on the back.

I’m debating whether or not modifying the pedals/pedal location might be the way forwards. Looking at them I don’t think pedal cover-extensions would do it as the brake pedal sits so far to the right, but there are brake/accelerator sets on eBay for £50 so modifying those and seeing the results would be fairly low cost.

Interesting- thanks. I shall ask them.

DDR pointed out that Mercedes Wakefield (still!) haven’t updated the digital service record with the recent B service, so I need to call them tomorrow. Is it common for official Mercedes places to miss this admin task?

I mentioned that after the service. ;)

One small thing I remember, the brake pedal on my 212 despite having very low miles/use (11/12k) felt a tiny bit loose/wobbly - almost like it needed shimming. I wonder if that was a one off or ‘they’re all like that’?

I was sat in my GL yesterday waiting for the wife and looking down my legs felt pretty straight/comfortable. It’s quite possible that the pedal position is part of the problem on the 212, but I’m still convinced that the seats are not as supportive and a little flatter than many other MBs I’ve owned :thumb:

MB Wakefield just called me to say the DSR has been updated, so that’s one thing off my mind, and the car is back with MB Bromley to see if they can cajole the stop/start into life. It did of course start working just as I came into London again this morning, but had been AWOL since the weekend otherwise.

Let's hope it's sorted to your satisfaction, however my hunch is that it's not a fault but a combination of a battery which was not in it's fully charged state, and not meeting the conditions to activate.

Originally perhaps the car had stood for a while before the trader received it, lots of stop/start moving around the trade's forecourt, to/from the main dealer for service, to/from the main dealer for repair, and so it might not have been tip-top.

Since the repair, I know it's a new battery but just because it's new doesn't mean that it's at it's optimal state of charge. Having taken it for a run when you went cycling may help top it up, but it may take a little while to fully charge and then meet the conditions to activate.

Ironically I turn it off when it's working, and wonder why it's not working when it's not! :D

What’s the other battery in the car like - ie age, condition, state of charge?

For the money charged by Bromley you would expect to get expert diagnosis IMO. If there’s specific criteria for the system to function (there is) it shouldn’t be too difficult to see what isn’t allowing it to work.

Again was out in my GL yesterday, within 10 minutes/couple of miles locally it was functioning as expected - ‘ECO’ goes from yellow to green in the cluster, and when stationary it seemlessly stops/starts. That’s how it should be :thumb:

If it was working this morning they will struggle to come up with a fault.
They could have a guess and change the other battery.
At least you will know the batteries are fine. (but not fully charged)

View from MB-B - Eco mode won't work with the air-con on. Which directly contradicts my experience of driving the car, but hey ho.

They want to keep it until tomorrow to run more tests.

That's garbage from them - the day I picked my car up from Bristol it was 31 degrees, the A/C was on the whole trip to save me expiring and the S/S on my C63 worked just fine. Beginning to worry about my first dealer visit in February if the dealers are this incompetent...

My understanding is that there are a number of conditions which must be met in order to initiate stop/start. I doubt aircon in isolation will be enough to prevent it, however aircon + lights on + radio on + battery condition would prevent it kicking in.

Thinking about it, I picked mine up on an extremely warm September day and had the a/c on all the way home. When in comfort mode, the stop/start worked fine.

Just a thought. You're not driving in Sport, Sport+, or Race mode are you? That will disable stop/start.

Absolute rubbish from Bromley. As you have noted, the system is designed to operate with the air conditioning running. I doubt it would have passed the criteria for emissions if that was the case (and for the same reason the gearbox always defaults to ‘C’ once restarted)

I would have zero faith in this place.

I have never turned the A/C off in the CL and the Stop/Start always worked.

With there explanation re the damaged wheel etc, i really would give them a very wide berth !!

Stop/Start works with aircon but it restarts the car sooner if you're sat at lights for a while.
