The E63 I now own.

You're right, should be 275 maximum on 9.5J.
Yet they (285's) are the size that Mercedes fit during production, and the ones AWD recommend for that size wheel?

I stand corrected, Mercedes did indeed spec a 285.

However, that's pushing it as the recommended size on all the charts is 275. Looking at some pictures it's not too much of a bulge but I guess Mercedes were trying to maximise traction with limited space as the E63 doesn't get wider rear arches (common problem across the AMG range on the cars based on cooking models).

Just my 2 penneth on the start/stop thing. My current C63S obviously has the same system, its worked in the past with no issue (admittedly less active than my previous Audi) but since it's gotten colder, it hasn't worked at all, even after a 70 mile round trip in comfort mode. I was initially concerned that this might be a problem but reading this thread has put my mind at rest, it seems that external/internal temperature has a significant bearing on its operation.

I also know from my previous A6 that it had a similar issue, unless the car was at operating temperature and importantly, the car could consistently maintain your desired cabin temperature (with A/C interestingly), the S/S wouldn't operate. It also wouldn't operate at all below a certain external temperatures.

I really wouldn't worry about it too much, minor things like that will detract from your ownership experience! As an example, i've had my current car since the end of July, it goes for its first service with me (its fourth since built) in February - I already know that due to selling it the previous owner missed its LSD oil change and its brake fluid change, I also know its A/C isn't the best so will need gassing.

None of this is insurmountable because I know the providence of the car and its previous history, also given the car has covered less than 3000 miles since its last service it really shouldn't be a problem :)

Not sure where I was going with this - just random thoughts really, take as you will and all that :)

I'm confident that we can resolve the stop-start thing, the only real question is who pays for it (and to what extent things need to be changed to achieve it).

However, one thing that is taking up my spare thoughts today is the pedal offset, which is leading to back-ache - something referenced in another thread that is current in this section of the forum.

The accelerator pedal is quite far to the right, my natural foot position falls on the brake pedal.

I'm going to have a play around with seat position to see if maybe moving the seat up changes the angle sufficiently to avoid back pain, but it's a bit of a puzzle to me why Mercedes offset the pedals so far.

I will need to fix this as there's no current M5 Touring, and the RS6 Avant is not for me.

Thanks for the title change btw chaps. A milestone rapidly reached thanks to you all.

Never ever heard of the pedals being in the wrong position :(

It's perfectly possible that I'm oddly shaped.
Not at all. There are several posts/threads of owners stating the pedals are offset and have caused owners some discomfort after long journeys.

To be honest I never kept my E63 long enough to look into resolving this issue, but the back ache/seat discomfort was the single biggest thing that annoyed me about that car.

Mostly it was great, but I couldn’t get comfortable on long journeys and tbh it really spoiled the experience on those occasions.

If some technical modifications are possible to resolve it for you then it has to be worth a shot :thumb:

I’ll be interested in how you get on

I'm bursting with schandefreude at the thought of driving to Glasgow on the plush seat of my 211 propelled by a good enough NA V8. 😇

Me too - it seems as though there’s a big proportion of owners not affected by the affliction though (but enough for it to be an issue for those it does)

The brake pedal is directly in line with where my right foot naturally wants to be, the accelerator is a definite reach across, as it were. I’ll have a think about this and will see if I can come up with something.

Are these seats that cause some discomfort the multi contour massaging seats?

If so, I can't for the life of me, feel any discomfort. And my back is shot to bits. These offer great support and the massage is heaven.

It's not only the back that's "shot" either 🤣🤣

Until this anomaly was mentioned, I never noticed anything untoward in either my W211 or W212. Certainly no discomfort driving.
Must be one of the lucky one:dk:
