The Great Scottish Grand Tour 2012

Great, the route is decided and the dates, unless anyone objects?

And where is corned, he is conspicuous by absence.

aren't there still midges around in early Sept?

Route and dates work fine for me, now booked in the diary.

Peak time is July / August - they start to disappear from mid-September onwards. If they do trouble you, a great cure is to have a full body oil massage administered by a naked super-model. The midges might still bite but you probably won't care.

Please do, I might suggest meeting in Inverness to pick up with you en route or you could come down to Dumbarton and do the whole one?

Sounds a good idea, remind me of the dates so I can book that weekend off. Thanks

1st and 2nd sept.

Midges are not to bad. The tour has a more easterly flavour and they are not so bad on the east

I have a social life outside the forum, you know! :p

Sean, if you're frightened of the thought of missing out on all those midges, don't worry - we can always farm some and bring them up with us.

1st weekend in Sept booked in my diary. Sounds great. I would love to do the longer trip, but I do have practicality issues so the Friday/Monday, as last time, suits best.

Hopefully i will be able to make this year !!

Youv'e missed "the mad road" as it is known locally, from Lochinver to Scourie,B869 I think. Did it last year, not a quick road but what a road!

Getting a bit far north for a 1 night. I won't miss it as I will be doing a much longer tour early this year

If this isn't until September, will the attending Sassenachs require passports by then?

If there is a queue at the crossing I'm going home to spend my money elsewhere. Or perhaps we can buy stuff duty free.

TripAdvisor ranks Riverview number 2 out of 43 Ullapool B&Bs. We've stayed at Broombank at 4 Castle Terrace - also excellent - ranked 7 and remarkable value. Easy walk into the centre for meals/drinks.

Folks, Riverview booked out.

I cannot impress on folk that accomodation needs to be found sooner, rather than later. Ullapool doesn't have a big hotel like Kyle of Lochalsh....
