The hunt is on for a winter hack

Even cheaper option would be a Pug 306 Diesel.

I've just had a quick look on ebay and these look quite expensive. £2k for a 2001 model on 80k miles.

I paid £2K for my W124CE 8 years ago.

a proper hack is sub £500 in my eyes. Some of you have much deeper wallets than I judging by some of the £4k cars that have been suggested. :D

How many people will you need to transport in the vehicle?

What mileage has that done?

... and wont you regret not saying what the mileage is in the advert? :D

When I shop for cars, if the mileage isnt listed I assume it must be galactic so swiftly move on.

Hehehe....it used to say it. eBay have fecked me over! I'm gonna get 'em for this!!

The cheapest second hand car in the UK looks to be a Daewoo Matiz.

Gives me goosebumps just thinking about one though. :D

only me.

I'm considering a large scooter even. (If only it had a roof)
Buy a van....
There is less that can go wrong with them, when you come to re-sell the condition wont matter so much as a car, 99% are diesel, the possibilities are endless!
For £500-1000 go for an 1999+Astravan
For £4000 you should just about get a 639 Vito 111 Cdi:thumb:

You'd look cool on this....

I'm with Charles M on this one Fiat Panda 1.2 second hand or new on a good finance deal or discount --- great wee cars well screwed together in Poland [not in Italy :p]. You will sail past most cars in the snow with its light weight/ narrow high aspect tyres.

Van insurance is the prohibitive thing though. V. costly to insure compared to a car.

How about a late 90s Nissan Micra 1.3? Can be had for around £500 and from my sister-in-law's experience, not a bad little car...

I think that falls into the Daewoo Matiz catagory in that I'd need to be wearing a disguise for fear of being seen driving one. :D

[edit] mind you 52,000 miles for 5oo quid and its an auto so I can be lazy in traffic - that starts to look more attractive.

EDIT 2 is that your postcode BTW?

There is that, yes... :D

Do you like Puntos?

Lots of good advice - especially the Panda/Fester/Ka

I ran an N registered Astra 8v thingy around as my main car for a year, a couple of years ago.
Cost me £500 - 11 months MOT, 6 months tax, 4 good tyres, aircon etc etc. 40-45 mpg
Spent £100 on oil/filter change MOT (after 11 months) and a rear wiper.
Sold for £450 with 11 months MOT and no tax.

I reckon in all including Fuel/insurance/MOT/servicing it cost me less than a bag of sand to run it for a year.

Motoring doesn't get much cheaper.

You wouldn't need to. No-one would even bother looking in.

works on tarmac and snow (with a slight modification)

How about one of these rigs. Runs on one chopped up Chav a week!
