The Yellow W123 - Unexpected Restoration!

I never really saw the attraction in old mercs. Now owning one I can see what the fuss is all about. Engineering and quality.

.

Thats exactly it... wait till you start playing, taking them apart.. thats when you realise the true beauty of proper engineering. Not like the rubbish made today.

So true...:thumb::thumb::thumb:

They go back together the same way as they come apart...
Everything aligns and fits...

I won't own newer then a W202 chassis, which still has a good feel to it...

Okay, I lied a bit..I have a 2005 G55K W463...but it's been built the same way for thirty years...

Great job on the W123 , can't wait until it's finished :bannana:

Getting there... wings fitted.. some base coat on the rear end and in the engine bay.. front bumper being fitted today.

It looks very cool Jay. :thumb:

You should start making a film for Discovery Channel ...

the amount of restorations and resprays my yellow car has had I could do a series if id have filmed it!

It'll be worth it. How much longer do you think it'll take?

Gonna colour code the penta spokes too Jay ?

So its a bit like Triggers "original" broom...5 replacement heads and 4 new handles..but still going strong!!!:D

Nah dont think so... bit too much!!

Getting there... almost all painted up.. just to swap the drivers door now and a final lick of paint and then putting all the trim back on.

How about doing the spokes in gunmetal grey then ? that would look smart !

Keep the silver lip though ....

thats a nice idea... ill give it a go!

Light coloured cars ( silver excepted )with silver wheels look a bit plain , having the spokes darker just seems to work for some reason ....

I'm glad you kept the kit on it Jay , its a smart looking 'super old skool' car ....

Bit of a belated update..

Stig the welder left me stranded a little as he had family issues.

Luckily all the hard work was done.. welding, base coats, underseal etc was mostly done..

So last week i finished undersealing and put the interior back in (after a through cleaning session)...

Car feels lovely being back together (i missed it a lot!) but not quite happy with the finish so ive stripped all the trims off the car for a final lick in a proper bodyshop. This will be done in January as Stig the painter is away on hols..

Also changed the n/s front door as the original had rusted at the bottom... luckily I have a mountain of W123 bits ive been collecting over the years.

Once all that is done I have a final snagging list to get through.. grommets here, clips there, new badges etc etc...
oh and a final lick of my favourite waxoyl..

Well sort of... Since putting the door on ive refitted the side skirts... put all new grommets on the underside, lined a few things up... oh and ordered 12 new pieces of chrome from Mercedes... All the door trimings are going to be new.

The car is sat in the garage at the moment and will be off to the body shop, hopefully next week, to have a coat of paint..

Very impressive Jay, a proper thorough job
