Yep! Shelves in the boot (with sack truck used to wheel it through the shopping centre from the local Argos - no longer allowed to collect from the back door because of "elf 'n' safety")..

There's no way this would have gone in the Panda, so who's got the most practical car now then? Eh? Eh? :D

Cheers,

i've had a motorbike in the back of my W124 estate.

swallows pretty much anything, usually to the amazement of ebay sellers who expected me to turn up in a transit van!

A few years ago my then brother-in-law (and still a great mate) had an entire bathroom suite - cast iron bath, sink, sink pedestal, toilet pan and cistern - and the bathroom window that he'd replaced either in or on his Skoda Estelle. This was the days before camera phones, so no photo unfortunately :(

He drove to work with that lot on the Monday morning and was asked by his father - it was the family business - what on earth he was doing with it all. "I'm taking it to the tip lunchtime", replied Alan. "Which bit are you leaving there, the car or the contents?", asked his dad :D

A trip in the 124, we had one seat folded!

3 adults, a big lurcher and a smaller spaniel, 2 mountain bikes and all the biking gear/spares, a tent/camping stuff plus all of SWMBO clutter that has to live in the car. I also bought front forks and won a few tyres. It all went in with a bit of thought and was fine.

Same race the year after, we took my Defender. Even with a roof tent we had to use the motorbike trailer to carry everything!

Garden centre reckoned the tree weighed best part of 15cwt. So how do you lift it over a 3ft wall?

Get a crane of course...........

Seemples. :D

A single mattress fits perfectly in a clk with the seats down no chance in a c class saloon

Five dining tables in / on a 202 estate.

Entire aga in a volvo 940. Bump stops tested along the m4.....

Recently I have moved two seater and three seater sofas with W124 estate. Two seater was in the booth with back seats packed and three seater was on the roof rails. I don't think any other estate could be packed like good old W124. I really miss that car. :'(

I'm afraid I must digress a little before returning to topic...

A friend bought two paddle boards on a working trip to Newark and transported them back in the hold of the aircraft (he is cabin crew) on Saturday. Then he drove the said boards from Heathrow cushioned on hotel pillows and strapped on through the windows to the north of England!

Returning to the point, yesterday I had a little visit to my favourite garden centre and bought just four plants in one litre pots. The owner kindly carried them for me to the car in a shallow tray. I opened the boot. He turned and just looked at me. I'd forgotten that the roof was down.

In my youth, I regularly carried my complete drum kit in and on my Frogeye Sprite, which of course had no opening boot!

To the surprise of the salesman, a brand new boxed Yamaha Clavinova piano slid very neatly into the back of my old BMW 535 Touring. Also, on transporting musical instruments, I got my Ovation guitar (in hardshell case), a Marshall ASR50 amp, large music bag/holdall, amp stand and yamaha trumpet (in hard case) all safely tucked into a Boxster.

Just got back from 2 weeks abroad but could not get 2 suitcases in boot of my c class without putting rear seats down. They are fairly big cases but always fitted in boot of my previous seat exeo and also fitted with space to spare in Passat cc at other end.

Double sleigh bed ( and mattress ) in/on a Honda CRX

Couldn't see a thing , and the steering got very light above 60mph as the ends of the bed were like a giant wrong way up spoiler strapped to the roof.

That was an interesting / fraught journey from cornwall to London I can tell you !

I do love your ingenuity BUT how unsafe is that!
And i cant see that tree weighs 3/4 of a ton?

Tony.
