Thinking about this W211????

Sorry.... can't easily embed image using my phone but according to the engine number it is potentially affected by the timing gear problems. Shame.

Also got the dealer to send a pic of the last service and it had£700 spent in it including all fluid, plugs and a gearbox oil change.

The potential engine issue has killed it really though now I think.

Oh and the perfect spec 350cdi 7 seat popped up on eBay last night registered some interest and it's already bloody sold!!

Is that really a show stopper (I've no idea how widespread the problems actually are).

This is very good

I missed a few - good ones with high specs fly off the shelves.

This one came up just his afternoon
Mercedes-Benz E Class 3.0 E350 CDI BlueEFFICIENCY Sport Edition 125 7G-Tronic 5dr

Its only a 50mins drive away so I'm hoping to go see it tomorrow and get it bought.

What explodey things can I expect to find with am s212 350dci then????:p

Well if you drive it into central London be prepared for the authorities to detonate it.

Seriously, though, be a aware that it's Euro 5 not Euro 6 and as such will increasingly likely to be discriminated against in more and more cities and towns.

If that's not an issue then it has more emissions gubbins to go wrong over the petrol.

How serious this is I don't know as I've never had one.

I NEVER drive into London, ever.

My other car is a Kia Soul EV which offsets **** like this.

The deisel emission stuff (DPF) is a problem in nearly all cars nowadays I think so a risk I'll have to take. Especially as petrol versions of these cars are like the proverbial hens teeth.

Hi chaps.

I was intending to chop in my 2006 ford galaxy, 2.0 tdci as I'm just plain sick of it, and the clutch is starting to give trouble. It's been excellent at shuttling my 3 kids around to be fair but it's just so characterless it hurts, and anew clutch/dmf etc is circa £700!

Will it be a case of out of the frying pan into the fire or is that era of merc pretty strong? The 7 seat option is an essential item and unfortunately like rocking horse ****.

I went to see this specific car today
Mercedes-Benz E Class 3.5 E350 Avantgarde 7G-Tronic 5dr

My thoughts on it were as follows:-

It was "alright". It hadn't been prepped for sale yet so a bit grubby inside and some kerbing on the alloys that was going to be sorted. Also various bits of trim about the place that I assume could be fixed back into place. No signs of rust and the paint seemed pretty good considering the age.

All 4 tyres had good tread but were random chinese jobbies, all different makes ranging from "Achilles" to "Sun-Li", they all showed signs of cracking within the treads too so probably been on there for years. The headlight lenses were cloudy too, oh and that left foot rest thing is a bit of an oversight, there isn't one.

On the plus side the engine and gearbox were creamy smooth and it drove really nicely indeed. One of the MPG readouts said 13.5mpg which was a bit alarming - I suspect it's been reset then just sat idling or moved about a few metres here and there. The salesman, who was typical, said it had just had a big service that cost circa £600, but the only evidence of such was their own stamp in the book, hmm.

All the electric gubbins worked but the sat nav looks all but prehistoric now and not much use (unless you can update it???) it didn't seem to be any Aux in either, I really want means of plugging my phone in s, or steraming via bluetooth so I can access DAB via that route.

Anyway. We agreed he was going to get it prepped for sale and I'm going to go back with the kids for a test fit, assuming someone else doesn't bag it in the mean time.

Any thoughts on the price? I bet the dealer picked it up for peanuts. Is it practical with 3 kids (3, 5 & 8) and a small dog? Will it explode in a large plume of pound notes? Is 30mpg just a dream if you drive around town mainly with the odd long run out?

Thanks for looking.

For that money I'd say that is a complete rip off and you get a lot of electrical problems with that shape you can get a facelift one for a grand or so more with no issues, unless it was a really nice looked after one which that don't sound to be from what you said I'd give it a miss, they are good for the kids though it will be a bit smaller compared to your current car but for an estate it's about as good as your get especially with the seats in the boot.

I've had 2x pre facelift 211's, and my current one is a 2002, Neither have had any electrical issues , I dont understand where that comes from:dk:

Barring a battery drain down to a faulty door control modul I've had no faults either. This seems to be a myth that early 211's are plagued with electrical faults:dk:

They don't all suffer them but it comes from the wiring loom originally being installed by robots until the Summer 04 revisions when they changed to human-installed wiring looms because of the problems they were getting. I think they made further improvements from 2006.

You will get to a natural point where all the issues are pretty much resolved on the early and later cars.

However, mine still suffered the odd random electrical issue even with good batteries and the replacement alternator.

Just annoyances rather than serious though.

Mercedes customers complain of electrical faults in E-class

"AMG engines are hand built and have a strong reputation for being incredibly powerful yet durable. Some early cars suffered from electrical problems but this was soon ironed out by Mercedes-Benz."

"A recall in 2006 for a possible problem where the engine may revert to 'limp home' mode. Another in 2008 for an electrical connection fault which could cause the engine to lose power."

"Electrical problems can affect earlier models. A recall in 2004 for the possibility of a brake fault and another in 2005 for a possible issue with the Sensotronic Brake Control, where the brake pedal may require more effort than expected. Another recall in 2008 for a possible problem with the SAM unit which may cause an engine emergency shut off."

Just bought a rather lovely silver e350cdi sport 125 edition with the 7 seats. Drove lovely.

Pick it up next week.

Oh no you did not buy that silver one did you!! well done lets have some pictures

Only took the one pic...busy doing the deal. It drove perfectly. Full documented service history, although all by the garage selling it, not a problem though. Missing a few choice options such as memory seats but it'll be me in it 90% of the time so just something else that could go wrong .

Coming with curbed front wheels sorted, some minor paintwork corrected and an oil service

As they say up here in Leeds "it'll be reet"
