Thinking of buying a W211 E Class

yeah. not bothered about value of the 75 when i sell as it will be worth nothing.

owning the BMW 7 series has been cheap as i have the service pack which covers all wear & tear but expires in may next year, which has influienced my decision

An '04 75 Club/Connoisseur 2.0CdTi diesel Tourer with autobox and lots of wood'n'leather should go well and will last well. Pull them apart and you will find BMW writtten on it everywhere, so there is no shortage of quality or of replacement parts when needed. Don't overpay but go for a garaged low-to-average miler with full dealer history in perfect condition. It is NOT a load carrier, it is a gentleman's tourer!

Or find a really good condition '02 E320CDi estate (if such exists) with a complete MB dealer history and maintain it at an MB dealer to preserve the Mobilo body perforation warranty. Have it wax-oiled or you may regret the purchase and be prepared for things to break occasionally. When they do, make a good relationship with a reliable non-franchised repair shop but have the A and B services done by a genuine MB dealer, to keep the Mobilo protection up. You will be driving an antique dealer's furniture van (or a country estate owner's wife's shopping kennel) but you'll always feel very good in it, at least until that "occasional" repair bill arrives.

If I didn't already have the saloon I would go for an '02 E55 AMG Estate. But what do I know?:)

This is not a good time to sell a thirsty 7-series and you'll need to hold on to about £9K - 11K for the replacement. But your plan is sound imo. When those 7-series run out of warranty you may need a personal trust fund to keep them on the road. :bannana:

OK, looking at quite a few cars tommorow:

this is the shortlist (in no particular order) of what i'm hoping to look at:

all deisels, all estates:

- 2004 Rover 75 Tourer Connosiuiuer SE
- 2002 Volvo V70 Estate D5
- 2004 Honda Accord Executive
- 2003 Ford Mondeo Ghia X
- 2000 Mercedes E Class (W210) - no leather tho :(

+ anything these garages have on their forcourts.

All varying prices from aorund £4k to £9k

I'm hoping the E class will be a contender. So far only the Rover and the Merc really interest me. The rest look a bit plain.... wifey says i'm a "badge snob" for wanting the old W210 merc when i could get a newer mondeo etc for same money lol which i guess i am a bit. the W210 estate does look HUGE tho for boot-space

i need to sell my car 1st so will not be buying any of the above, but i am hoping to make a good decision on what model i really would want to seriously consider.

The Honda is a good car, though some problems with the turbos and gearboxes, can look like a hearse from the rear if you buy in the wrong colour!;)

I was in Germany last week and the guy who ferried us around was driving a 2003 Mondeo with 319,000km on the clock. Few dents and scratches on the outside but the interior had stood the ravages of time and distance very well. Despite having very little/no status, Mondeos seem to go on for ever.

well i saw 3 estate cars yesterday:

(1) W210 E class (only from outside - garage was shut)
(2) Volvo V70
(3) Rover 75

Rover 75 felt too small to be honest - but thats the only reason - i thought the car was very nice indeed. It was top spec. So i've had to rule that out as i need a really big boot.

Volvo V70 was nice, low spec but i suspect a high spec one to be VERY nice. So still a contender.

E-Class. The E class was Y reg (facelift model). It looked good. Going to go back for a better look when the garage was open. I think this may be the way to go as i can retrofit COMAND to it and a wood wheel and i will be happy.

News to follow!!

ok i went back to view the W210 in more detail.

Very impressed with the general size of it.... almost similar interior size to my 7 series plus a gigantic boot.

this particular one wasnt the car for me as it was a petrol and i want a diesel.

it had nasty bubbly rust by the tailgate latch/handle and light bubbles under one of the wheel arches at the front. apart from that the car seemed good rust-wise.
