Thoughts on short number plates.

I like it

Whatever floats your boat, it’s your car.

Personally I like an oversize plate shaped to the recess. I currently have a Jaguar XK shaped plate on my CLS and considering something similar on my SL

I just bought this for SWMBO's Fiat 500 but now thinking of swapping as would go well on my 500...

I had the same on my Rover 75, but I’m not sure how it would have looked with a shorter number - with acres of yellow plastic.

I had a short plate on the front of my Alfa 159, because the bumper had been designed with a tiny Italian plate in mind. Personally, I much prefer a smaller plate in a large space over those oversized ones on the back of Rovers and Range Rovers. Who wants to emphasise a sheet of yellow plastic as opposed to the lines of the designer?

But maybe the designer designed the space for a big plate?

I like the rover oversize plates.

To me, it looks like it accentuates the fact there are less digits more than a smaller plate.

I used to be unsure....

Fitted a shorty to the front of the dogs car ,i would have done the same at the rear but some genius had fitted the previous plate with self tappers and positioned the holes outwith the size of the smaller plate.

Many design features of the Rover 75 were of a retro nature - the instrument cluster for example, and the rear number plate area echoed that of the P5 Rover 3.5 ltr. So it was indeed designed for a larger shaped plate, known in the Rover world as a 'smiley' plate.

I have cut-down plates on the JZR, in fact on the front the plate has a smaller font, so I suppose I have a foot in each camp.
