Ticking SLK!

Hey people!
Got an R170 SLK200 Kompressor. Engine sounds quite rattley, almost diesel like - quite loud ticking etc.
Just wondered if other SLK owners had similar sounding engines. Is this a charactaristic of the engine? or is something screwed?

I've heard of this before on other cars and in some cases the problem has been the exhaust gasket. May not be so in your case but something to check anyway.
