Time to say bye to my lovely Aston

I have been thinking of joining them for years, but somehow never got around to it. Won't bother now! thanks for the info

Ray, thats the same classic car club that I was a member of - which is where the old ferrari came from that Graham mentioned. A great concept But having driven a few of their offerings every one after that broke down so I left in a huff! I even paid extra to join their superacr section which compised a DB7 I6 and a ferrari 355 . As I already had the DB7 Vantage I had the ferrari for a weekend & it broke down contantly , it had the yellow hub wheel centre caps missing & has loose exhaust cover that vibrated constantly. The Bentley OS front Tyre disintergrated & we had to call out the AA . - I felt they were trying to fob me off with Classic cars that were nothing more than very old motors that they bought cheap & wouldnt do up properley other than bare essentials . Also, they have the cars spilt between Birmingham & Altrincham so you cant always get whjat you want when you want it & with british weather booking weeks in advance for a fancy motor to drive in the rain is no fun

I woulnt recommend them but if anyone does join, opt for the pay as you go membership. I paid a year in advance & they would refund anything !

OOh dear that hit a nerve ! sorry for the rant guys.

You could rent some nice cars for that money First company I googled
Just wait for some nice weather....ring, ring..."I think I'll try the GT3 today,10am delivery please.."

That seems just the place I need - thanks Janner. If they hire out at short notice thats even better

We are thinking of selling the ML as well but until I find something its a great workhorse. .. & I've just put comand & TV tuner back in .

Porche Cayanne Turbo ?? I dont actually like the model . There are a few around so they dont have the wow factor that the Aston has.

Bristol Blenhiem?? Old technology , Old style, Old mans car and notorious for breaking down with errm only one dealer I think !

Hi Janner,
The site you have mentioned certainly has cars that look in far, far better condition than those illustrated in the 'Classic Car' site. I am to polite to voice my opinion on diiferent sites but Steve has corroborated my thoughts.

:D Rent-a-Poshwreck.com ;) Who said that??

Pity the site you mentioned doesn't have the new Aston Martin convertible.

Bye for now,
John

Steve
Get a Brabus or a CL65

The deed is now done. How weird watching someone else driving away my Aston never to return or be seen again.

Never had that feeling with any of the other cars I've sold.

Still, now the fun starts trying to come up with a replacement.

Short list ?? Hmmm

Bently Continental GT - a bit big and daft but fits the bill perfectly -
CL 55 / 65 - maybe
Def NOT the CLS .. its looks horrid
E55 AMG / BMW M5 .. not really as they are Hot versions of "normal" models
DB9 (but only 2 proper seats)
New Jag XK replacement (but only 2 proper seats)
AMV8 (but only 2 seats . )
Hummer H3 - just for fun!
fuzzers idea of a Ferraii 456 crossed my mind too - but a pain to maintain so I hear.
I wonder if the Sultan of Brunei has got around to having a DB9 estate made yet .. he's had custom estate versions of several other Astons ..

My perfect car would actually be a proper 4 seater Aston martin - so I suppose that would be a DB9 based Lagonda .

I'll keep thinking

Steve , a pal of mine had the Bentley GT for about 3 weeks before chopping it in for a CL65 that he has had for about 8 months now (the longest he's ever had a car without changing it  which i think speaks volumes)

Good points :- I've never seen another one, it is just so unbeleiveably fast as to be unreal, 4 seats , lots of toys, lovely exhaust note, V12 biturbo badges  612bhp (you get a little certificate from the man who built your engine  ), its the daddy believe me !!

Bad points :- if you sneeze at the lights as you pull away with the traction control off, you will wipe about £500 of rubber off the back tyres ! errrrr. .... thats about it !

CL65 - you know you want to !1

rocco forte has one for his daily driver , maybe give him a bell , see how he is getting on with it :p

Sounds interesting .. When he's thinking of changing, do let me know.

With all that power, 4WD would be handy - like wot the bentley has :)

Thats the difficulty .... putting 600+bhp through the rear wheels is very hard to control......

He reckons the CL seems 'light and nimble' even though its a huuuuuge car.... and the Bentley although nice , still felt like a bit of a 'barge' :D it did look good though, black with black leather... mmmmmm

So, 18x700/36= £350 a day (+servicing,tyres,capital interest,insurance etc)
Hey Janner ,,, Just run that calculation by me again .. I could just be having a senior moment but where does the 36 come from? I get £23/day :)

if you drive it twice a month for 18 months, thats 36 times ......

I'd take someone with you when you sign the finance agreement on the next car ;) :D :D

cheers janner , i never was right at gud at numbers :D

Steve,

A true family mota Dodge SRT10 pickup, I know its not your average DB 7 but it does have a crew cab for the kids/dog a V10 8.2lt V8 with 500bhp giving you 5.0 sec to 60 and 155mph and a pick-up bed for all of the sunday rubbish....
with the change from spending 47K you could get a track day car as well.....

Hi Wheelie,
It is so nice to see that we all have varied opinions on what is a true family 'mota' Do they actually produce a RHD version?

John

Unfortunately not John.... however there is a company who specializes in RHD conversions on all import stuff....
I like the American muscle old and new... funnily enough I have a 57 Caddy for 3 days next week to boat about in... cant wait the amount of looks you get in that thing is amazing.....

I was just thinking about the excellent point made by Janner.

When buying a 'super' type car which is not going to be used as the regular driver, what would I go for?

Depreciation is not really something I would pay to much attention to if I were taking this course, but it is something I would consider.

Now what about buying a 'classic' A sensible choice should not devalue very much (if at all) and certainly not anything like a new vehicle. Would I want a two seater or coupe\saloon?

The original 300SL might be on the expensive side, but a brilliant car. AC Cobra again mega bucks but neither would de-value. MG TC and the Jaguar XK120 would both be easily affordable and are real eye catchers.

The Rover 3.5ltr saloon and coupe (Not the SD shape) are certainly affordable, eye catching and the sound of the V8 is to die for. If ever you fancied working on your own vehicle, oilder cars are simple beasts that are not controlled by computers.

Have a nice day and good luck with your choice,
John
