To remap, or not to remap, that is the question...

My 320CDI was done at msl and it was a map from big fish tuning and I am very happy. Iirc it changes the torque parameters in the gearbox also so no need to change down as before with shed loads more torque on tap ☺

What kind of gains did you see with your 320 CDI? The figures most companies indicate are around 265bhp/445lbft. However i think one or two are more like 290bhp/480lbft.

I'm kind of debating whether i should get mine done or not. The standard 224/398 definitely isn't a slouch but more would be nice. Even if there's very few open, quiet roads to enjoy it. I'm not sure it's a wise idea for reliability reasons either. It's also not encouraging to know that a new turbo for an OM642 is something like £1700 according to my local Mercedes specialist.

They could break your ECU.

I find this reply strange?, I have had 4 Re-maps done by Celtic Tuning 3 Mercedes and 1 Jaguar XF and have never had a problem with any of them.

I had 3 Re-maps done prior to using Celtic Tuning by Superchips UK and had problems with 2 of them, overfueling and Smoking but that was in early 2003/4.

I believe Celtic Tuning do offer a warranty with each Re-map so if there is a problem then you should be covered, especially if they damage your ECU whilst mapping it.

I own an Electronic Servicing workshop and "Kevin" from Celtic carried out the Re-Map on one of our benches whilst being watched by myself and a couple of Engineers and we all agreed that the work was done to a good standard.

I have no affiliation with Celtic Tuning at all but statements like this without hard facts can be damaging for a company.

2 75ish bhp and if iirc 450ftlb .I was told this is well within what the motor and box can take so no problems what so ever and this makes her rather rapid for a smoker! She's well capable of showing some gti St or turbo whatever to shame

Forums are about sharing experiences and we can only go buy feedback of other enthusiasts and unfortunately there are mixed reviews on Celtic and based on what I have read they would not be my choice along with Viezu.

Jackonsa: Quick question. Has your Brabus module been flashed with the correct firmware for your vehicle engine variant? Did you buy the module new or was it used as if the correct firmware has not been flashed then it will cause issues i.e. not running smooth as it should. Also, from obtaining the serial number of the module Brabus will be able to confirm what firmware has been flashed on to the module if you are unsure.

As there is nowhere close to me for tuning that comes recommended I am contemplating a remap by Celtic for my CLS G-E , I have contacted them and they remap on top of the Brabus box that came with the car from new (+30hp and 80nm IIRC)

They operate out of a place in Clydebank called A4 Audi and by all accounts they seem to do a good job. It is not a bespoke map and there is no rolling road time so how they quantify the gains I don't know.

I was quoted £360 for the remap , at their Newquay place, but a member on the other MB forum was charged a fair bit less for their mobile service to carry out the work. Due to work commitments I have not had the chance to visit A4 Audi yet but fully intend to at some point next week , to have a chat, when I have some time off.

That's exactly how I feel about Forum posts and my experience with Celtic Tuning on the 4 occasions I have dealt with them has been excellent, there are also rave reviews about them on Jaguar and V.A.G Forums.

Is this not an exert from one of your previous posts?

"The W203 drives like a completely different car now with the Viezu remap on".

Do not remap on top of a tuning box.

The same thing can be achieved within a few maps in a properly setup tune.

At the start without pushing the Viezu remap at full throttle on my former W203 it did appear to make a difference BUT when applying full throttle there were limp mode issues. I went back to Viezu head office on 3 occasions for them to rectify and even their technical director was involved but they were unable to resolve the issue. With the remap removed car was perfect.

There were no technical faults with the car and I even replaced the turbo with a brand new one as the error code on STAR related to the boost pressure being too high. Viezu tried various combinations by evening reducing the boost pressure to no avail with new turbo. What finally did it for me was when I visited their head office and they confirmed that the issue was resolved after testing at full throttle on their dyno with a revised remap only for the same issue to occur on my way back home on the motorway.

Therefore, I would never use Viezu again. Mechanically there was no hard issue/defect with the vehicle whatsoever.

The person who I have sold the W203 has since had a remap on it by another tuner and has no issues whatsoever with the vehilce at full throttle.
