Too much condensation

I'm in that phase of having a new car (R129) where you begin to learn all the little niggles that need sorting...

I put on my panoramic roof a few days ago and find that its always misted up, quite heavily too. Are there any common trouble spots and fixes to this?

Convertibles are always susceptible to window mist which is why I tend to stick with coupes. Not a fan of sunroofs either.

It may be that you don't quite have a perfect seal, allowing moisture in.

Or, as Rifiki said, it could be something as simple as not using your air con.
Air cons also act as dehumidifiers as well as temperature controls. You'd be surprised how many people don't know this.

Always run your air con. Set it to a comfortable temperature and leave it on.

As we all know, the air gets very moist at this time of year so misting windows is likely unless you remove the moisture from the air before it enters the cabin.

See how you get on.

If you're waking up in the morning and finding misted up windows in the car, you could have a breach somewhere.

Pollen filter ok?

How long have you had the car? If not long and it was valeted before you got it there could still be some residual damp in the carpets.

Thats my plan once I get the leaking condenser sorted :doh:

It's also a symptom of this time of year with the large temperature differentials between night and day.

You can use a couple of these tucked away under the seat to help. Every few days, you dry them out on a radiator...
2 x LARGE 1KG DRY AIR CAR/HOME DEHUMIDIFIER BAG MOISTURE ABSORBER/DAMP EATER: Amazon.co.uk: Car & Motorbike

I used to use them in my LR defender that had almost no insulation and plenty of air gaps.

cheers, Steve

I've got 2 small absorber units in there now, but the product on the link looks much better, going to order one now! Thank you :thumb:

I've noticed that the hard top doesn't sit flush with the car at the back - is this gap normal so as not to damage the paint?

I have exactly the same issue with my 129.

I suspect rain is not being cleared from the base of the window on the outside and the drain holes have become blocked, which leaves a large reservoir of water ready to be heated and pumped into the car whenever the heater is used, only to condense when the car is left to cool. In icy weather I have a crust of ice all over the inside of the screen and rear window of the hard-top.

Had an old MGB with the same problem. Found leaves and gunk clogging the drain tubes in way of the heater matrix. cleaning it out with a hose solved the problem.

The problem is that I don't know where the drain holes are on the r129.
