Tool to import speedcams in COMAND

I think that it technically should be possible, but I don't know if they will.
I have a 2012 model as well, so I don't have audible warnings just like you.
The only thing I know now is that other users with a 2013 model do have audible warnings.

I've just done a quick search & Alfie has said there is a big firmware update from May this year, perhaps this adds the feature, anyone had it? My car is not due for a service until next April so wont know until then. I assume Merc charge for updates if not done with Service.

Not sure if they provide you with a firmware update as part of the regular service. If so, my car is 9.000km away from the next service, so probably somewhere september/october.
Last service was in April, so probably I just missed the firmware update.

If there is a firmware update available they include it in the service foc. This has happened many times during my time with Mercedes.

I have 2012 comand online with no firmware updates. It does have audible warnings. once you have installed the info, click on nav, personal poi, audible warnings and click on the relevant boxes. I just keep it for the fixed cameras.

I had my 2011 c class done today, the maps went to 2013 v8.0, but the firmware on the satnav is not improved at all.

Certainly no beeps and I think I still have to keep importing the POIs.

It was just a bonus in a 2nd hand car for me, but why do people who actually paid extra for a satnav put up with it?

Because it works very well for navigation, which surely is the main purpose of satellite navigation. :dk: It's also great at detecting slow traffic and suggesting alternative routes. Only once have I ignored its advice to take a silly looking route - only to regret it!

Personal POI load issue Merc Command system

I am trying to import a test ATM POI file from GPS site free poi download data into my command before loading the actual and intended speed camera (as that needs sub).

I downloaded the kml file and using MB Poi Loader - I created a gpx. This has been loaded to my sd card in personalpoi\personalpois.gpx When I put the sd card into the car via PCMCIA reader I cannot see the 'Personal POI' option to import poi on the screen. I have attached the photos and sample files and would be grateful for anyone to guide me.

I am trying this on a W212 Dec 2009 E class in UK.

I couldnt see a way to upload files here so I have uploaded them to
Free large file exchange service without size limits

I would be grateful if someone could help me with this?

If you have the recent 2013 COMAND Online, you can have audible alerts for POIs.

Select the Navigation map window, then from the top menu NAVI / Personal POI / and you can select audible and/or visual alerts.

Job done, gong works for any POIs showing as ticked (active on map) in your POI lists.
The gong is the same as an in-flight gong for 'fasten seat belts' :)

I have Map version 7.15 or something 2013/2013 - its an April 2013 E220...

What Am I Doing Wrong?

I should be a really happy bunny, 'cos my brand new E Class has the latest version of the SatNav and I can download personal POIs and set them for audible warning. So far, so good.

But I can't quite get things working.......... :fail

  • I've converted my speed camera files I bought for TomTom from .OV2 to .GPX, which which is what the on-line manual says it wants.
  • I've created a new category of Personal POI, "Cameras" on the car and given it an icon.
  • I've put the files on an SD card, which the car has been able to see, and it has created a directory called "PersonalPOI".
But, it doesn't matter where I put the speed cam files, when doint the import the car ponders for awhile then says there's no POIs. I've tried puttong the .GPX files:
  • In the root directory of the SD
  • In a directory "Cameras"
  • In the "Personal POI" directory that the car created
  • In "PersonalPOI\Cameras"
In each directory I've put the individual speed camera files (Gatso-30.GPX, Gatso-40.GPX, etc), plus the Bitmap icon files in case the car wants to pick these up as well.

I did contempate creating a directory titled, "Look in here, you stupid machine", but decided it wouldn't take matters any further forward. :wallbash:

Can anyone guide me on how to get it working? Do I need to create a separate category for every single type of camera and have some sort of naming convention? Or do I need to combine them all into a single data file and lose the individual categories for speeds and Gatso/Specs/Mobile/RedLight?

Have you enabled your custom POI by ticking the box?

The camera fiules should be in a directory under 'PersonalPOI' on the SD card.
Then as in my last post, navigate to it and enable it by ticking its box.
When you escape back out with the 'return' button on the joystick it may take a minute to load it all.

I only use POI camera files from PocketGPS World, and drop then on to the SD in this way and they just work.
I have two files, one for all mobiles and another for all fixed - so two sub directories below PersonalPOI (I have others too).

If you remove the SD card, you have to re-enable your personal POIs.

Yep. I've also enabled "Unclassified", just in case it trys to put them there.

They are in the "PersonalPOI" directory on the SD, but no joy. Personal POIs is enabled and it goes looking for files. It then says there are no POIs in the category.

Mine originally came from Pocket GPS World as OV2 files and I've used a converter, so they should be pukka.

I've even created and enabled a personal POI category called "Gatso-60" to see if it will pick up just one of the files. No joy.

If you remove the SD card, you have to re-enable your personal POIs.
Yep, and I've even tried personal POIs with the SD card out. It asks for the card, begins importing and finds none.

Steve
I'm making a simple schoolboy error somewhere, I just can't figure it out.

The only way I can find for it to pick up personal POIs is to go to navigate, destination from a personal POI and let it start looking. Is there another way to get Command to recognise and import them?

The manual only describes how to import from the "server" using the web acccess functionality, which is no use to ne at all.

Agggh!.

I think the problem is with the converter.
Why are you converting OV2 files as PGPSW allows download of native GPX files, these work fine :)

PGPSW = £19, up to date OV2 already I have. If I need to, I'll buy the files, but no point doing so if I can't make things work anyway. I've checked the integrity of the converted files and they look okay, syntax wise. The fact that the car can't find anything leads me to believe that the conversion isn't the problem, but I'm happy to be put straight.

Tell me, what do you have from PGPWS (file names, exensions, etc,), what directories on the SD card, what category names, etc. If I can't make anything out of it I'll do the download from PGPSW.

Cracked it!

I consolidated and converted my OV2 data into KML and viewed it in Google Earth to confirm it as valid. I then used Jack's excellent program to convert it into GPX and put copies in various directories on the SD card to give the car a fighting chance of finding it.

The import is a bit clumsy, I had to try to navigate to a personal POI (Camera), at which point it went and found them. The data doesn't look pretty so I'll now splash out on a proper download from PGPSW and I'll also put in McDonalds, KFC and the supermarkets.

I don't live close to a camera but will be passing some this afternoon, so hopefully it will bong as I approach them. I'll report back.

Many thanks to Jack for his conversion program that worked first try and I need to play with a little more to get things just so. Thanks also to MBR1 for giving me some clues.

Well I now have the latest film ware and satnav installed on my command and still it does not see the SD card file or give me an option to choose my personal POI on screen. Any help would be appriciate. (NTG3 V12 2007 S class) :dk:

:dk:I have just noticed that SCDB now want 9.95 EUR to down load speed camera files. :dk:
You've been skim linked. It comes up as a link to an Amazon sales site. Can you re-post?

By the way, I'm super happy with the SatNav on my recent E-Class. With speed cameras converted and loaded on an SD car, it just gives a gentle bong before every camera location, even when not in Nav mode.

I still have to sort out all the McDonands and supermarkets, but generally, it's the best factory-fit system I've seen.

.

Perhaps it's only an option on later NTG4.5 or something....
Teflonso - have you dried modifying the data fields in the GPX file too?

My next play is to stretch out the warning distances as 9seconds for a motorway camera van with a half mile view isn't enough.
From memory its about 9secs standard, so presume you could run the file through MS Word and selectively change that 'phrase' to hold a longer number?
