well would you believe it.. 2 SL's and 1 SLR.. what a show.. the SL 65 really is semi pointless next to the standard models... and whats with the non roof.. i didnt know that, so i did learn something new from it.. pointless...

but what about the new e class..

amazing that the only use they found for it, was to show that it had good heaters..

well i guess it helps to know that if you are looking for a car with fantastic heaters, the new e class is the one to choose!

I guess, for such a new car in the market place, Top Gear had nothing else to say about it.. hmmm...

well atleast it didnt break down lol

MIssed the first part of the show. I was out so set it to record on Sky +. Came back later and it had only started recording at the 'news' section. Were the schedules messed up by the tennis or something?

According to the Sky planner is was due to start at 2030. It actually started at 2000. Don't know what happened there.

I too think that the SL65 is pointless, its status has been confirmed, that car having been bought by a footballer (Theo Walcott?) - lots of money no taste.

Exactly the same happened to me :-(

Damn that Sky+!

He's a footballer?!! Lol, thought he played for ****nal and they are just a bunch of ballet dancers.......:D

Mercedes are doing nothing more than providing a car that has appeal to a certain section of the community. If they didnt make the Black model, these people would simply go off and spend their vast wads of spare cash elsewhere.
When you enter the realm of the supercar supercash world, dont look for sense or value for money. This is where the law of diminished returns kicks in big time.
People with £250K++ to spend on another car to fill their 6 car garage dont judge cars in way that us normal folk do. To them and their like, its nothing more than a rather large trinket - a visual statement of wealth and taste - for the rest of us in the normal world to gaze upon with awe and desire.
If these people were really after a performance car that offered a degree of value for money, they would all be driving around in a Noble. I doubt whether 95% of owners of cars such as the Black will ever explore its limits. And I suspect 95% of those that do end up in in the middle of a field or hedge. Having wealth does not equate to having driving skills - in fact usually the opposite.

All very true. People in this market don't rationalise cars the way mere mortals do. What the program last night proved to me is that the 65 lacks drama and noise. Something the SLR has in spades :bannana:

My TiVo recorded it and it gets the EPG data from Sky! My season pass is set to add 5 minutes to the end as BBC2 is notoriously poor at time keeping at the best of times!

Be very careful downloading TOP GEAR episodes from a source other than one known to be clean and malware free..
I have it on good authority a forum member tried to do exactly this this a week or so ago and picked up a very nasty bug.

If in any doubt - use the BBC iPlayer

Also, it's possible to 'patch' the iplayer file so it never expires......so I'm told

I wouldnt say the SL65 is pointless like Clarkson says, if AMG dont make it, someone else would make a stripped down version. Also it gives Jay a project to turn an standard SL65 into in 20years time :D

They sat in a W212 and turned the heat up, didnt comment on the car....

I'd guess they mkake these cars as engineering exercises for a few of their customers that absolutely have to have the biggest, fastest, most expensive......The kind of people that insist on matching Louis Vuitton luggage, when actually Samsonite does a better job and cost a fraction of the price.

Christ on a bike ! That deer was close....

Christ on a bike ! That deer was close....

Not as close as the one that ran into the side of my car last week when my daughter was driving... big dent to repair now... and the Deer was uninjured, possibly needs a few Nurofen tho'

I haven't seen sundays episode so i haven't seen how the SL black is depicted on there. What i can say is, this car does lack a decent soundtrack, but certainly not drama. It really is ballistically quick- SLR quick.

Also, the fact that Theo has bought that car doesn't make it a "footballers car". They've only made 9 RHD, not enough to become the new Bentley Conti GT in my mind.

I wouldn't say no if i were offered one that's for sure :D
