Touring: Mull of Kintyre, Appin coast and Glen Coe

Thanks Steve, inspirational as ever.

You're making me (a) hungry with the pic of the fish and chips and (b) planning to get a traditionally-sprung 211 next time so I can do the Bilstein thing.
The set up is great. I munched a speedy Leon Cupra on the a83 just before the turn off for Carradale. Simon M will testify its a fun twisty section.
Oh I love that part of the world, nice pics. Hopefully I'll be up that way later this summer, but since my camper isn't designed for going round corners(!), I won't be clipping apexes etc like you were. :D

Looks proper cool that, I'd love a camper

Tarbert, my old stomping ground.

Boat is but a distant memory.....
make it a recent one. I know you like me are into photography and driving, it's a match made in heaven and you really do have the sort of car to make the drive immense.
Great pics Steve, increases my anticiption of the tour in Aug/Sep.
The route for then is even better, you'll love it. Let's pray for the sun
I never been to Scotland, but I have always wanted to, now even more so. Great pics makes a bit jealous.

Go, go as soon as you can, it's immense

I've been around the world but have never been to Scotland. I must say that it is your Scottish touring posts that have made me plan a trip for later in the year. Inspirational. Thank you very much.

I am glad you enjoyed them, I love touring, its the biz

Nice ride out :)

It was actually, the lowered set up eliminates a lot of pitch, roll and dive. Very comfortable, and the heated seats are great, shame they are leather, cloth is comfier and more supportive but the big side bolsters keep my love handles held in.

This is a proper Grand Tourer, which is ideal for my needs. 41mpg for a whole days driving, in speed, comfort and with bags of capability, the diesel makes a real head sense, and ticks all the boxes for the heart when you fling yourself into the horizon...

Just got back from 12 days driving round Scotland, must have crossed paths at some point Steve.
Loved the road from Pitlochry to Tomintoul via Braemar ( your suggestion, thanks). Unfortunately cloud was down to about 500 feet, so didn't manage to see many of the fine views on that route.
Had a great drive from Ullapool down past Loch Maree,Loch Torridon,Sheildaig, Loch Carron and on to Kyle of Lochalsh.
Guess what, it wasn't in the SLK but the Peugeot as we were carrying two large suitcases and a variety of other gear that the ladies can't seem to do without.
Missed most of the torrential rain, but didn't get much sunshine.
Almost forgot the run from Rannoch Moor to Inverrary down glen Oich? - a very tight narrow road that follows the river.

Isn't that little run ace, in your SLK over the Lecht, like blakey ridge, but straighter....

Did you go by Applecross or the more conventional way, both are nice routes and agree that the Wester Roast coastal trail is immense....

I know the road you mean, but I have never done the Glen Oich one, its one of those ones I mean to do, but never have done

Cracking pictures folks takes me back as I grew up in Dalmally (between Tyndrum and Lochawe) and went to school in Oban but moved over to Aberdeen in 89 used to work in the railway from Crianlarich to Rannoch station, stunning views :)

(Gentle reminder...Its Lochs we have up here :thumb:)

Didn't bother with the Applecross pass this time round,- cloud down, but have driven it a few times previously.
Did 1900 miles this trip.

The weather has been a bit gash too, but the run through Torridon and to Kyle without the Beleach Na Ba detour is still good.

Next route, try the A86 from Newtonmore to Spean Bridge and stop at Laggan Dam
thanks for these wonderful pictures and possible future journey:thumb:
No bother, it was a good route to follow and for sheer driving pleasure, the Lochgilphead to Oban run is amazing.
