Transmission query on 190e 16v

I had a similar problem on mine and it turned out to be a coil for the hesitation. Its almost like the car has its own mind when it want to run nicely.

I hope this helps.

MercedesCozy can you elaborate on the coil? what coil, where is it etc?

Grober - i dont think the oil has been changed on the transmission nor the filter...Ive looked through old receipts and the last time it was done was about 15k ago...

can i do this myself? what does it involve?

thanks!

Zak

The coil would be next to the ABS system.

Have a look at this its below part number 161

Hi guys,

I wonder if anyone can shed any light on this...

i have a 190e 2.5-16 auto...coming home last night if i shifted down from D to 3, the change in gears was not instant, and infact took several seconds for it to drop a gear.

Any ideas?

Then on top of that that old annoying problem is back...the hesitation...im going about 80mph and it begins to jerk back and forth...i want to die!!! The only thing i can think of is that i put in that new shell v power crap...could that have caused this?

Im thinking of changing my fuel pump relay?

Any advice would be helpful

Thanks

Zak

Zakh,

How did you get on with hesitation problem?

Zakh,

You're having terrible luck with your 16v. It seems to be one thing after another after another.

Did it have service history?

yes, full service history!
i think im jinxed or something... :(

So sorry to hear about your car. Now you know how I used to feel after buying such a lovely looking car and look at what happens.

I have had about 5 cosworths 190E 2.5 16V and I have had enough of these cars and would not buy another one.

These cars just seem to have a mind of there own and the engines in them either run good or bad.

The hesitation is till there...i thought id solved it with gapping the sparks a bit more but im ready to drive this car off a cliff...its really stressing me out...
No one seems to know the problem at all :(

Did you try another coil?

Zakh

Sounds like a lovely car. I too like these cars still but the technology is old like you said.

I still feel tempted to buy one but my gut feeling just tells me that its not worth the hassle.

I nearly once decided to put a diesel engine into one of my cosworths that would not stop smoking even after a rebuild. All people said was it need running in. Then I just left.

Last week I was offered a 190E 1989 2.5 16v Black, full leather, auto, aircon, original in mint for 1500 but I had to say no.

Let me know how you get on and I will try and assist you if I can.
I know these cars can be a pain in the butt.
