TRAX 2012 Silverstone Sunday 2nd Sept

I'm going out now to wash the car and decontaminate it ready for good polishing tomorrow :D Just fitted rear spacers that were a total b**** but got there in the end, rears don't look lost in the arches now!

Nice :)

Which spacers did you use? (make, type, width)

They are H&R DR 15mm plus extended bolts, had a run out in it after, no scrubbing, vibrations, pulling etc so all in all a good buy just very snug even with a fair helping of copper grease

I guess I should wash my car tomorrow then... ;-) and hope for the best!

It needs professional help I'm afraid!

Good spacers.

The general opinion is that spacers with longer bolt are best too... as apposed to the spacers that bolt to the hub (see my thread "warning - wheel spacers", if you didn't see it).

Sounds like you took the time to install them properly - copper grease etc, which is good.

If/ when you take the wheels off for whatever reason in the future, give the contact faces a wipe to make sure they are free from grit etc. This will ensure that everything is sitting flush and true against eachother. :thumb:

Over time you will be able to make sure you don't have clearance issues. I say that because you have yet to travel at motorway speed and go over uneven road surfaces at varying speeds. Maybe put a full tank of fuel in and maybe a rear passenger or two and go for a careful drive. That should do it.

If you are going to have any rubbing, it is likely to be where the top edge of the rear bumper bolts to the bottom edge of the rear wing.

Drive mindfully and listen for rubbing for a while until you know you have clearance.

If you DO ever get rubbing, it shouldn't be by much and downsizing to 10mm spacers will look just as good.

Lol, what is all this? :D

I'll happily take a look at them for you.

I'm sure there's nothing that abit of time and elbow grease couldn't sort out.

Just to clarify, I'm no detailer - like some of the guys on here that do it professionally. I just addressed one thing at a time and tried my hand a getting things looking good.

I don't want to create the impression that I know best, and I'm sure there are recommended/ advisable ways of tackling each aspect of a car, I just found a way for each job that worked for me, that's all.

I wasn't planning on bringing a bootful of detailing things but I will certainly share ideas with you.

:thumb:

Just wanted your opinion on the tailpipes mate, that's all :D
The rest of the car is mint, just some marks on the tailpipes that won't come off :thumb:

See you on Sunday :thumb:

LOL! :D

No professional help needed bud. :)

My car is all good to go now... but I am growing concerned about possible rain early sunday morning that could ruin things for me on the way up. :(

I refuse to have my hours of work undone and may have to plan to arrive at Trax alittle later than planned to avoid the early morning, short rain spell.

Justin. My C43 will be there. I managed a 0-60 of 5.1 with 18's. Jacks old car did a 4.9.

Both fitted with the 5.5 of course ;)

That's a good time Olly. I can't be bothered to change the wheels back so will also be on the 18's
I am just interested in seeing what a fairly standard C43 can do, then I have a bench mark for next time when it is more powerful ;)

Do you have anymore of those lightweight crank pulleys Olly ?

Lol! :D.... I was only messing ;)

We'll take a look see.
I'm sure it wouldn't take much :thumb:

I was going to have a go at it with very fine wet and dry but did not want to chance ruining it

I think that is the only way as tried a few types of metal polish already, still not to my liking yet

Hahah it sure does! Need to get some money together for a professional detail, then would be able to maintain it a bit better!

I sure hope it doesn't rain on Sun as I would love to see your car!

Thanks for the advice, will bear all of that in mind, did take it on a drive where i could get some speed up for a few minutes and it didn't seem a problem, made sure i went over a few speed bumps and uneven roads - more or less all the roads round here are uneven  but I hope there won't be any issues, did see the thread which made me extra cautious about actually fitting them but had to bite the bullet, got a really good deal on them so wouldn't be too much of a loss if I never fitted them.

With regards to your car and rain showers, getting it dirty on the trip up, polish the beast up then cover it in detailing tape in the areas where it will be likely to pick up the most dirt then when you arrive, peel off and QD spray? Think that is what I will be doing as dead bugs embedded into the bumper upset me when the car is nice and glossy

Glad to hear all seems well with your clearance so far.

Weighing the back down with fuel and passengers at some point would probably be best, then you'll know for sure :thumb:

Thanks for your consideration regarding the possible rain on sunday morning :)

I'm going to see what the forecast is saying tomorrow afternoon - that should give me an idea of what to expect, then I'll see what I'll do from there.

You may be right though... I may end up having to brave it and hope it doesn't rain on the way up. Failing that, I may leave later as any rain looks like it'll fall between 4am-6am.

:thumb:

Rain or Shine i`ll be there lads, this forecast is changing hourly!

looking forward to it!

Remember to put the show pass in the windscreen, T stands for tunnel entrance and we are in area , clubname is Eastside!

off to bed, got alot of cleaning to do tomm!

Alps, I can't make it in my CL.

I will be arriving in a black LWB W221 loaner, 61 plate ;)

Hope that's okay!

perfect!

let check the 0-60 out in it ;)

Hahaha, it's a 350 ECO diesel, it will switch itself off at the start line! LOL

That said, this is probably the most sedated and luxurious car I've had a pleasure to drive.

I know what you mean.

I decided to brave it one day. I got a couple of grades of sand paper I had in the garage (250 & 400 I think) and set to work. Admittedly, it's probably best to use a range of different grades but I was on a mission to get the tailpipes looking good .

Got to admit, it was scary to see the scratches I was creating as I worked on the tailpipe insides

After using the 2 grades of paper, I then set to work with the polish - and was VERY relieved to see the scratches come out, leaving a nice smooth shiney finish

Polish won't do it alone, if you have built up, bonded-on crap. You'll be there forever trying to remove it

You'll need to use more attacking methods to remove that first and then work the polish.

I think Simon on here (Mor8A) used a dremel... which I'm sure would make things alot easier.

I don't have one of those and I don't think my OCD would have let me use a simple method anyway! lol! :D

I will talk to you about them Sunday.
