I wasn't on about turbo cars. So out of curiosity,what would limit the engine from making power?

Getting enough air to flow through it and the strength of the internal components.
I wouldn't be surprised if the 2.3K engine can make up to 400Bhp as an absolute max, but really doubt this one is making anywhere near that figure.

Mitsubishi can squeeze over 400 bhp out of a 4 pot but that's with a turbo the size of Africa and some of the best engineers in the world knowledge.

I was just adding to the argument that turbo charged engines are easier to squeeze more 'power' out of.

I've just calculated the Bmep required.
Assuming the engine makes Max Bhp at 6500rpm it has a Bmep of 24. WOW...!!

I'm thinking - hypothetically of course - that would be one hell of a load of pressure upon stuff like the head gasket, and a lot of force upon the bottom end etc.

Can't see it myself. I'm calling bullsh*t on this 350bhp car

111 series engines are very strong just depends how far they will take
that kind of pressure

On an engine running high boost,the compression ratio would be changed,different crank etc. I'm used to Ford engines making more than this with a supercharger,which is why I expected it wouldn't be a problem.

go search the net for parts you wont find much and if you do they will cost 10 to 20 times the price of the car

its not a ford its a 4 cylinder 2.3 engine with a supercharger guys in the states spend a fortune on the c230 and only get 40 to 60 bhp out of them or their abouts i can send you a link to a American site that talks c230 k all day long and the upgrades if they want power in their mercedes over 260 bhp they put a six cylinder twin turbo engine from a supra in it a 1jz or 2jz engine over 360 bhp they fit straight in like the c36 straight six

There is some fellow in the M-B Club who's name escapes me right now who apparently has done a couple of CLK230's and got amazing power readings, but its a compete strip and rebuild, all sorts of tricks and inevitably, a turbocharger. MB Club are reticent about his activities, get the impression they frown on this kind of thing (mind they are factory backed) to get to him you have to join the Club and go thrugh the CLK 'Captain' a flamboyant sounding character called Red McKinnon.
