Hi there, after much thought I decided my C200 that Iv only had about 2 months is not powerful enough, it's a lovely car and Iv really transformed it since Iv had but after a bit of research Iv relized an engine transplant will be to much hassle.

So today Iv picked up a 1997 C280 V6 in silver, Gray leather, 112k and compleatly standerd for a good price, so my question is how much power can I safely squeeze out of the V6 lump and with what mods?

I am thinking full stainless steel exhaust, replacement air filter/induction kit and a chip/remap. Anyone with any ideas to what I might gain with this or are there any other or more tuning options?

Any advice welcome,

Thanks in advance,
Sy.

Not being funny at all, but you've done the right thing going from a C200 upto a C280 for more power, but if that's not enough you really should be looking at the AMG varients.

C280 + mods will soon be into AMG territory expenditure wise, and won't be all that much quicker whatever you do :)

If could afford an AMG I would have one...im working my way up to one lol, was just wondering what mods I could get for a little more BHP, I'll be fitting an exhaust and induction kit myself so no labour cost and they'll also sound nice, I'm not sure weather it's worth remapping or doing anything else that's why I asked the question.

Cheers,
Sy.

Fair enough :)

There's a member on here that was selling a C43 for £2000 that needed a little work. I think another member bought a nice looking C36 for £1500 not all that long back too.

Just seems a more logical way to power increases for me. An M112 C280 is a nice car, but there's very few gains to be made power-wise. I don't think the costs involved (parts, insurance, remapping etc) are going to be such good value for your money, that was all.

Maybe make the C280 as clean as possible which costs nothing but time, look after it and save up a bit more cash towards a bigger engined model in the future? It would be well worth the wait I reckon

The exhaust may give you a few extra HP esp if you de-cat it. The induction kit will probably slow it down as they are often exposed to high exhaust temps. They often damage the air mass sensor too and that will slow you down too!

Stick to a green cotton replacement panel filter.

Make sure the car is fully serviced and running 100% as this helps with the efficency.

A re-map will gain you diddly squat on that engine.

I have a lightweight crank pully that will fit your car. You dont get a huge gain but the engine revs much more freely.

Yea that's kind of the plan, I'm gonna tweak this one a little and cruise it untill I can afford an AMG, I also have seen amg's going cheap lately, there was a C43 on eBay that had a starting bid of £2400 and no reserve which didn't get any bids and one that sold for £2550. I only payed £900 for mine and its mint appart from a couple of tiny dents and a rip in the drivers door card, so I'm happy with that :)

Cheers,

I'll just stick with a new panel filter, exhaust and a good service.

Whatever way up though, a C280 is a nice jump up from a C200 - lots more power and low down torque, much smoother car to drive

For £900 it's a good car for the money :thumb:

Yes, I've got a C200 and a C280 V6. The C280 is a nice step up, lots more power, very refined and reasonable mpg. Still think the bodywork (rust wise at least) is better on the C200 but my one is a pre facelift whereas the C280 v6 is the facelifted version.
